Light We Lost | Jill Santopolo

The synopsis definitely had me hooked. Love, desire, jealousy, betrayal...all the key words to hook you in! Except it fell a bit flat for me. Instead I was left confused, angry and often times shaking my head. I just wasn‘t in love with Lucy and Gabe‘s relationship. I honestly felt like it was more infatuation than anything else. I know this is probably not a popular opinion, but neither character were all that likeable.

Laura & Emma | Kate Greathead

I enjoyed reading this book. Initially I thought the bond between Laura & Emma would be more of a friendship vs mother & daughter. I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow and also falter throughout the years. I did find that some of the years/chapters were a bit rushed and left the story a bit choppy. I would have liked to see more character development throughout the story. Thank you to @simonbooks @netgalley for the digital copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in just a few days! The story had me hooked from the very first chapter. I enjoyed reading from each characters perspective, as they each had an important role to play within the story. It was very easy to follow along with each character which I thought allowed the story to progress nicely. Thank you again @stmartinspress @sallyhepworth @netgalley for this digital copy.

I loved this book! It had everything that I enjoy family dynamics, secrets, drama & love. It starts in 1947 and ends in 1970. The chapters are short and alternate from different character perspectives, which I loved! As the years progressed and the children grew up, we were also able to read from their perspective within the story. The story although heart wrenching at times was a beautiful story about the power of love and family.

There are many twists in the book that I was very surprised about...which I loved! There were also certain storylines that I thought should have went into greater detail. I thought that many of the plot twists felt rushed and still left me with questions.

Overall I rated this book 🌟 🌟 🌟/5 it was an easy read with a few unexpected surprises.

Jess7 I liked this one at the beginning, but I wasn‘t a big fan of the ending. However I did find it to be a fast-paced, easy read 6y

I enjoyed Simon and Klara‘s stories the most and it was probably because you saw more of their character development through the years vs the other siblings. I loved reading from each characters perspective but i wish that it was done in alternating chapters vs whole sections. Overall I enjoyed the story, it was a sad story but felt like there was still hope for the Gold family.

Jess7 This is on my TBR! 6y
