Twelfth Grade Night (Arden High, Book 1) | Molly Booth, Stephanie Strohm
post image

Vi is a new student at Arden High - where ghosts and witches and fairies roam. Tanya and Ron (the teen fairy royalty) have taken a shine to her, but world-weary Puck sighs: "She's not actually cool; she's just wearing a beanie."

A YA graphic novel on loan from @Eyelit about Vi, a student attending a new school. She makes friends with an eclectic group who play DND and are on a decoration committee for a school dance, and finds herself entwined in high school crush complexities.

Queer rep of multiple kinds, fairy realm rep? Lol, and a bit of family drama. Sweet but not too deep.

Happily using for #booked2013 #lovetriangle.
✅CW if needed.

Cinfhen Sounds like a perfect lighthearted read💜 9mo

I was never a Shakespeare fan until I read Twelfth Night in high school and then saw She‘s The Man. If I didn‘t already love the insanity and confusion of characters in the story, I would have after Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum made me cry tears of laughter (comedy GOLD). This graphic novel iteration is fun! I enjoyed the fantasy adjacent setting and the 21st century spin on the events. 🧚‍♀️

Saknicole Twelfth Night is such a fun play. I love all the modern adaptations. Also, She‘s the Man is a gem! 11mo

Every Epiphany,a nearby Congregational Church celebrates the event with an Extravaganza,Boar‘s Head Festival. We participated in the past & it is a wildly wonderful way to celebrate the end of the Christmas season.

There is a moment with mixed up insta tags that is so perfectly the mood of Shakespearean comedy, that I actually gasped. Fun contemporary high school version of Twelfth Night.

#AugustAuthors Day 2: In this clever book, Claybourne and Miller summarized ten of Shakespeare‘s most popular plays in just two pages: from As You Like It to Hamlet, from Antony and Cleopatra to A Midsummer Night‘s Dream. The challenge is to find the characters of the play on the next full-page spread, and to find #WilliamShakespeare, too, hiding somewhere. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-in9

I love the little details they‘ve added to this. This book is way more fun now that I‘ve read so many of his plays.

Wow, this was just hilarious. I never thought I‘d laugh at anything aired on C-SPAN. 🤣😂🤣 Plus, if a lawyer can drop in THAT many pop culture references AND give a rebuttal in inambic pentameter, she deserves the win. Just saying.

Lcsmcat I thought she stole the show on this one. 5y
GingerAntics @Lcsmcat I completely agree. I laughed so many times during her portion. The other guy kind of fell flat after her performance. 💙💙💙 5y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark what‘s the next play we‘re doing? I get paid on Wednesday and I need to get a copy of the next play. I can‘t remember if we said Henry or another play and then Henry. (edited) 5y

readinginthedark Sorry, um...let me double check my notes! I'll email you guys tonight! 5y
TheBookHippie I was wondering too!! @readinginthedark 5y
TheBookHippie Hilarious !!!! The best!! 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Hey, save your money...they are all free in the public domain. You can download them on Project Gutenberg (ebook) or if you prefer audio librivox...or in little installments Serial Reader has most of them. 5y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I know. I have a public domain version of the next play, but I like the footnotes and additional essays in the RSC editions. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Oh gotcha...those are very nice. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics What is the next play? 5y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Henry IV part 1. We‘re trying to decide if we should do them one after the other since there are just a few hours at the most between the end of part one and the beginning of part two. 5y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa they‘re my favourite editions of Shakespeare 5y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa the one I had to do on Librivox was weird. I swear one guy called in to do hi performance on his cell phone. I usually get the BBC Radio 4 audio plays from my library. They just didn‘t have that one. I can‘t remember now if it was winter‘s tale or the one before that. 5y

I couldn‘t help myself. I saw that someone else finished it and I went for it. I take issue with the ending. It just sort of ends. Another quick wrap up. Maybe it‘s just how Shakespeare does his comedies? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I still loved the play anyway. The ending is really my own complaint. I enjoyed Shakespeare‘s exploration of twins, and the idea that he was really writing his own twins into this one. Highly recommend.

readinginthedark Several people are finishing this one early, I think! 5y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark the last two acts weren‘t that long in the end. 5y

readinginthedark I just haven't had time to jump ahead. My focus is very scattered right now, so my reading time is shorter. 😆 5y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark aren‘t you getting close to your due date, though? It‘s probably normal to be all over the place at this point. 5y
readinginthedark Yes, 1 1/2 weeks! I'm exhausted all the time, so I'm sure it is normal. Everything weird is normal in pregnancy. 5y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark that seems logical 5y
batsy I couldn't resist, too. I finished this awhile ago and kept a notebook with my observations to be able to remember what I want to say in the discussions 😂 #nerd 5y
GingerAntics @batsy I did the same thing. Especially for this one. I want to remember having read this play this time around. 5y
batsy It truly helps. I love having the notes to refer back to and I bet if I read it again in the future I'll make a whole different set of notes. 5y
GingerAntics @batsy I was just thinking that. Each time you sort of take something else away. It would probably be fun to compare notes after rereads. I‘m thinking I should have been taking notes all along. I‘ll have to keep them from now on, and then for plays I reread, I can compare the different notes. 5y
readinginthedark @batsy Oh, smart! I used to do that with everything I read and then stopped because I didn't really have time to record all my thoughts. But doing it for this is pretty genius! 5y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark @batsy I‘ve never done it before this year unless it was a book for school, so this is a new adventure for me. It does seem like a really cool idea. If nothing else, I‘ll keep up a reading journal for the read along. 5y
batsy @readinginthedark I used to be quite good at doing that to, but then I just stopped. Like @GingerAntics I'm going to try to maintain it for the Shakespeare reads and maybe for any other group reads I'm doing, as well. 5y
TheBookHippie Oh I am definitely going to start taking notes too! These readalongs having me visiting Shakespeare regularly which I love!!! Who is leading next round!? 5y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie we‘re not quite sure yet. We talked about it and now can‘t remember so we are reviewing our notes before anyone goes into labour. We‘ll let you know shortly. 5y
