Jinkies, gang! It‘s time for some spooky mysteries! If you‘ve only ever read E. Nesbit‘s stories for children then you are missing out. She wrote some amazing gothic ghost tales that keep the chills coming. Perfect for a chilly evening by the fire or on a Sunday while the holiday dinner is in the oven.

(1976, stories originally published 1907-1933)

Oh yes yes yes. These are old-fashioned, atmospheric ghost stories that remind me of the tales of Arthur Machen and M.R. James, which I love. I'm not sure how I've failed to learn about Marjorie Bowen all this time, but am delighted to discover her now.

This book was James Lee Burke's best yet. I love his books, but this one is my favorite. Lots of action in this book, especially supernatural action. I highly recommend this book.

NovelGirl82 He‘s one of my absolute faves! Black Cherry Blues was my intro into “adult” mysteries and ie memorialized in the lit tattoo on my back. 2y

“In my time here on earth I‘ve learned nothing. The mystery of creation and it‘s beginning and end remain a mystery. I believe the great sin is to depart the world without discovering the raison d'être for one‘s existence” (p.270)

This is one hell of a novel. Full of the ghosts that haunt us all: the “things done and things left undone.” One of Burke‘s best. Once you‘ve finished read “A Study in Bravery” at Jamesleeburke.com and share his grief

I‘m hesitant to start a series midstream, but I‘ve read some earlier novels in the Robicheaux series, so I gambled on this one. The introduction makes it clear that this is a more personal novel for the author as both he and the main character, Aaron Holland Broussard, deal with the grief of unexpectedly losing their daughters. The writing shines in those descriptions as well as those of the Montana landscape. Parts of the plot fell a bit flat…

EvieBee I love this artist and didn‘t realize there was a calendar. Love it! Lol! 🦈 💕 2y
TorieStorieS @EvieBee I have been buying the calendar on Etsy for a few years now!! I love them!! 2y

What are you reading in preparation of Halloween? Right now I‘m reading Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom.

“Set in Colonial New England, Slewfoot is a tale of magic and mystery, of triumph and terror as only dark fantasist Brom can tell it.” — Publisher, Tor Nightfire

Have you read it?
