Hello Littens, especially you Kindle-Paperwhite users:

I keep doing “something” (assuming it is me?!) that resets the font to the tiniest smallest number. What am I doing? It seems like I do complicated steps to get it back to a readable font so ... I am stumped.

Any helpful guidance would be appreciated. And sympathy too. 😂👓🔎

Photo crossing Mississippi River

rockpools I‘m having a horrible time with all of the print everywhere being Much Too Small, so you have my sympathy! If I pinch my fingers together on the screen, the font size shrinks. If I flick them apart, it grows. That might be easier than fiddling about with umpteen steps to get the size back? (I‘ve just discovered this, so not too sure how to describe it!) 8mo
BkClubCare @rockpools - THANK YOU! I might be doing this somehow when I turn pages or access the menu #shrug 🤷‍♀️ I am not having a good experience, gaws I feel old. I want to flip to precious pages but it goes in the wrong direction and ... I‘m hopeless. 🤣. Update: yes, it worked. Thank you! (edited) 8mo

“For dessert there was a choice of rice pudding or rhubarb pie.” The book I just finished, The Cold Millions, had a reference to rhubarb pie. 💗🥧 #iLovePie #pielit #LitPie #PieinLiterature #CaresBooksandPie

I do love these quotes via the kindle app. #shrug

I don‘t “count” this as a book read like I do other audio books (because it doesn‘t exist in print form), but I really enjoyed this audio memoir by James Taylor. It‘s short and sweet and gives some background to his life and songs.

Cathythoughts Sounds good. My first boyfriend & I used to listen to James Taylor .... a long long time ago 😁 2y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I got this one too - glad to hear it‘s good. Love James Taylor! 2y
thebluestocking @Cathythoughts Ha! It‘s crazy how time flies. 💙 2y

thebluestocking @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I love him too! His music is very comforting for me. 💙 2y
slategreyskies My husband and I were walking at the park yesterday, and we were laughing over a discount I‘d gotten without asking at a hot dog stand downtown. I told him that the woman working the counter must‘ve seen my smiling and decided to give me a break on the price. I told him she must‘ve been channeling her inner James Taylor and sung the lines “whenever I see your smiling face, I have to smile myself!” Then I told him I‘d buy his hot dog next time. :) 2y
thebluestocking @slategreyskies That‘s a great story! And a great song. 💙 2y
BkClubCare (I count as a book... #shrug) 2y
thebluestocking @BkClubCare That‘s awesome. I kept going back and forth. It‘s an interesting question. I count other audiobooks, of course. 💙 2y

“... prone to a sportsman‘s vernacular, describing people as “off net“ and seasoning his conversation with clubby expressions.”

Ok, what would OFF NET mean?

Lindy Good question. 3y

Nutmegnc Might depend on the sport? 3y
BkClubCare @Nutmegnc - I still don‘t get how it applies to describing people. #shrug 3y
BkClubCare @Nutmegnc - Trust me, it‘s probably not good. The guy is not a nice man. 3y

I was gripped from start to finish. Wash‘s story of escaping slavery in Barbados and finding a way to make his own life while confronting the traumas he faced, the prejudices across countries, and the constant fear of being recaptured was a page-turner. It addresses the horrors of slavery but doesn‘t reduce to good and evil, also addresses the prejudice of those that were abolitionists. Also love and science and marine animals.

Cathythoughts Great review... I must get there soon ♥️👍🏻✨✨✨ 3y
andrew61 Definitely a must read now - thanks for the great review. 3y
Blaire @andrew61 @cathythoughts it was a good travel book bc I was so engrossed. Hope you like it! 3y

Cathythoughts I think it might work for #Booked2019 #genrebusting ? Do you think it‘s genrebusting ( remember someone else may have said this .... 3y
Blaire @Cathythoughts hmmm. I‘m not sure. I think that‘s a tough category. I would classify this as literary fiction/adventure. 3y
Blaire @Cathythoughts I don‘t think I really understand what genre busting means. 🤷🏼‍♀️I wasn‘t planning to use this read for that category. (edited) 3y
Cathythoughts I‘m not sure what genre busting means either .... I‘m going to read this one anyway .... meanwhile I‘m sure there will be plenty of suggestions for the #genrebusting book .... thanks ! Your very good to get back to me 😘 3y
Blaire @Cathythoughts of course. I‘ll be following the hashtag for ideas! 😍 3y
BkClubCare @Cathythoughts @Blaire - the TOB commentary addresses the genre busting concepts. Something about how it is has elements of typical romance adventure but turns it somehow. #shrug (edited) 3y
Blaire @BkClubCare @Cathythoughts interesting...I think I‘m probably not well-versed enough in genre conventions to say what‘s busting them. 😂. But @cathythoughts if TOB says it is then prob counts, 3y
Cathythoughts @Blaire @BkClubcare I‘m afraid I don‘t even know what TOB is 🤭... ( thinking out of the box came up when I googled it - among other things ) we will have to get to the bottom of this 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♀️ DI @Blaire @BkClubCare 3y
Blaire @Cathythoughts @BkClubCare it‘s the tournament of books. The morning news runs it at the same time as basketball March madness and sets up brackets where different new books compete against each other. A judge reads two and chooses between them. It‘s fun to follow. 3y
Cathythoughts @Blaire thanks !! We don‘t have that here as far as I know. Well if TOB says Washington Black is genre busting .... that‘s good enough for me 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3y
Blaire @Cathythoughts I agree! 😍. If you want to follow the TOB here is the link https://themorningnews.org/tob/ 3y
Cathythoughts @Blaire Ahhh Thankyou!! I‘ll definitely give it a try 😀👍🏻 3y
Cathythoughts Oh I just had look ! Looks exciting 😍Thankyou 3y
BkClubCare @Cathythoughts - whoops! Sorry - I had assumed this was a #tob2019 post and didn‘t realize you might not know abt it. It is the best thing abt March! (Well, except for #piDay) 3y

Not sure how/when/who rec‘d this to me but it was fun, for sure. I‘m not sure I will read on though (adding to my list of series where I only read the first then quit it.) Then again, if mobster porn is your thing, you might as well try it! Personally, I just might have to suggest it needs MORE porn. #shrug

Was I dismissive of this book for years? Yes! Did I figure it was a bunch of feel-good, self-help hooey? Yup! Did I assume the hype meant it was drivel? You betcha!

And then, prompted by Mary Karr's Art of the #Memoir, I decided to give it a try. And I really liked it. So there judgier, snobbier, younger self! You were wrong!

Cathythoughts Interesting 👍🏻 4y
Cathythoughts I bailed on the movie. But you are making a good case for the book 4y
merelybookish @Cathythoughts I think I have changed more than the book is different from what I expected. If that makes sense. I'm just more sympathetic to journeys of self discovery than I once was. (Hello midlife crisis! 😬😜) I haven't tried movie and don't really plan to. 4y

youneverarrived 😂 I‘m feeling the same about it at the minute but you‘ve got me having second thoughts! 4y
merelybookish @youneverarrived You can probably wait a bit to read it. 🤣 4y
Ranchan I love this book! It probably helped that I first read it in my early 20s, when I needed to figure out where to go in life, but the sheer selfindulgence is wonderful. The luxury of being able to act on that 💖 I think it's nice, feel-good, pick-me-up read for inbetween heavier stuff, but it's one of the few books I like to reread pretty regularly. 4y
ghosthost I had similar misgivings when my bookclub chose it 10 years ago, but I was pleasantly surprised too. 4y
BkClubCare Love these admissions! I read it before the hype and enjoyed it very much. #shrug 4y
GatheringBooks awww... books do resonate with us differently at certain junctures in our lives. i used to absolutely adore this particular novel (coelho) when i was in my early 20s, but reading it now in my early 40s with my 16 yo girl who was howling with laughter at some of the scenes from the book, i can‘t for the life of me remember why i loved it so. huh. 4y

I don't think those missing pages were necessary because I don't feel like I missed anything. I *did* cry. So what. AND, I do appreciate stories of women being daring and heroic. I just am not a KH fan. #shrug

Yikes- in the HUGE minority on this one. I found it sluggish and boring. I've decided I'm just not that into Amor Towles. Let the reading slump continue. ⭐⭐ #Shrug #RussianFiction #Slog

Dolly There wasn't any real high action here. I liked it but maybe you want more 'energy'? 😉 5y
BritanyA @Dolly maybe more energy would've made this better, but whose to say?? Lol onto the next one... 😀 5y

swishandflick I'm with you on this one! Just couldn't get into it, was bored out of my mind. 5y
BritanyA @swishandflick oh thank goodness!!!! Glad we are together on this one- sometimes when you're the only one in your group of friends that didn't like something, you don't feel so great-- 😳 5y
REHill I had to put this one down. I tell myself I will force myself to finish someday. I am happy I am not alone. 4y
BritanyA @REHill YES! You are not alone on this one #ugh 🙈🤓 4y
