I like to have noise in the background while I read. I found this app called Ambient Mixer and you can have all sorts of ambient noises in the background to set the mood while you read. Personally, I favor the Ravenclaw Common Room and the TARDIS.

ElaineHowlin Love this app 😍 I love one thats similar to Belle's library. Cant remember the name but it's Beauty and the Beast inspired as well. 6y
NotLiketheRoad @ElaineHowlin I have one like that Favorited as well! It‘s so nice to have running in the background. Silence makes me anxious. 6y
jmofo This is so nifty! Thank you for sharing! I have some field recordings I have taken that I use for this but most of them aren‘t as long as I like. I‘ll have to check this app out! 6y

Fun to talk about and write about setting in the Intermediate Short Fiction Writing class I am teaching. We discussed Gran, Jackson & Guterson‘s excellent use of setting! #writingworkshop #fiction #setting

Lowood is one of the settings in Jane Eyre (and this is a favourite “reading sweatshirt” 😄).

saresmoore Why hasn‘t anyone launched a fair trade clothing website for reading apparel yet? I demand organic cotton library pants! ...she said while wearing organic cotton yoga pants. 6y

The title of the book is the setting!

Bambolina_81 I still dream of finding my own secret garden one day! 6y
batsy @Bambolina_81 Me too! Made even more stronger as an adult dream after reading this 😊 6y

CrowCAH @Bambolina_81 @batsy it would be nice to have an outdoor sanctuary like a flower garden! 6y
Bambolina_81 It would! We are redesigning our garden over the next month or so and I am so excited. We have a beautiful pergola covered in clematis at the moment and I wish I could get to sit under it like I used to. Soon though! 6y
CrowCAH @Bambolina_81 sounds wonderful! 😊 6y

Chatsworth House is believed to be the inspiration for Pemberley House. Some even believe that the entire novel was written while she was in Bakewell.

The estate was even the #setting for Pemberley House in the 2005 movie

#litsyclassics

Bambolina_81 Now that's a view! 6y
Lcsmcat Gives new meaning to the quote, when contemplating the trip with her aunt, “The town where she had formerly passed some years of her life, and where they were now to spend a few days, was probably as great an object of her curiosity as all the celebrated beauties of Matlock, Chatsworth, Dovedale, or the Peak.” 6y

When i first discovered john irving many moons ago i hoovered up his back catalogue including this very early novel which references one of his early themes - bears. A little bit of artistic licence on the meaning of 'setting'.

Cathythoughts I have this on my kindle.. recommended by a friend. I‘m not sure if I‘ll like it 🤷🏻‍♀️only one way to find out I guess 6y
andrew61 @Cathythoughts it's such a long time since i read it i couldn't advise Cathy. I keep meaning to reread his books as he is a favourite author but always worry that they won't be the same as when i first read them. If you do enjoy it i may be encouraged to try it again. 6y

The Hobbit | J.R.R. Tolkien

The air grew warmer as they got lower, and the smell of the pine-trees made him drowsy, so that every now and again he nodded and nearly fell off, or bumped his nose on the pony‘s neck. Their spirits rose as they went down and down. The trees changed to beech and oak, and there was a comfortable feeling in the twilight. The last green had almost faded out of the grass, when they came at length to an open glade not far above the banks of the stream
