This picture book tells the story of Bass Reeves, a man who was born a slave and became a sheriff in the Wild West before Oklahoma became a state. Reeves really seems like an incredible man; my issue with this book was how flippantly Native Americans were referred to, as well as murder/death - “he ONLY killed 14 people!“ 😳 This just didn't seem like appropriate content for a picture book. What I enjoyed the most were the illustrations.
I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

My summer list! My list for #14books14weeks2023. These are all my personal books. Some have been on my TBR list forever. I am starting with Tombstone. My son just graduated from high school. He loves Westerns, and Tombstone is his fav. We leave in 2 weeks for Vegas, Zion, the Grand Canyon, Phoenix, and of course a stop in Tombstone. Thanks for hosting @TheHeartlandBookFairy !
I've always been fascinated by the old west. I visited Dodge City a few years ago but have yet to read this. #TemptingTitles #WithATown @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

I adore this series. Nice cleanser. I love the one liners and the brothers. Diana was a good addition to this book. Love the place and times. It‘s a good western without being too much of a western.
Tom Clavin writes very entertaining books on history. With a specific focus on the history of the Wild West and WW2. Often with his writing partner Bob Drury. They read more like novels than dry books on history. I enjoy their writing styles. This book on Tombstone not only covers the infamous gunfight and it‘s aftermath. But a good history of the Earps and the town itself. As well as good histories of the other characters.
