I enjoyed this novel, and not just because of Emilia Fox's interpretation of a southern (US) accent. The characters are complex and realistically cagey, and Miss Marple rocks, as usual. The observations about the differences between US and English culture are interesting. I can't judge how accurate the English side is, but Christie basically suggests that United Statesians don't mind shameless self-promotion, and I can't say she's wrong.
I only started reading Christie in the last few years. This year, I'm reading through the Miss Marple series with a friend.
This is book 5 in the series and one of the stronger ones, in my opinion. Marple is a part of the story from page one, which I love because she's such a great character. The mystery had several layers to it, making it a bit more complex than previous books.
Overall, I had a wonderful time at Stoneygates with Miss Marple.
Yesterday I was here, and today I'm back home, doing dishes while listening to the tagged book (with cats staring at me wondering why I'm not sitting and petting them indefinitely after being away for a week).
I enjoyed listening to this book. I enjoyed the element of the book. The characters were great. I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
#bakerstreetirregulars this is the mural mentioned when they ended up in Asbury Park chasing that motorcycle. The murals at the boardwalk in Asbury Park are stunning, a way to cover up the fact that they are still trying to bring back the beauty of the buildings, it‘s taking a little longer than they hoped, I think. They made huge improvements, but they had a huge project ahead of them!
#BakerStreetIrregulars Our March read was the new book by James Patterson and Brian Sitts, a fast paced detective story that paid tribute to three famous literary characters, Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, and Poe‘s early detective Auguste Dupin. While the short chapters and quick dialogue made for an entertaining read, we felt that these authors may have tried to fit more into this book than they should have. There was…a lot going on. ⬇️
#unpopularopinion I do not care for the writing at all. It‘s tedious and I am not connecting with any of the characters. I should want their backstories, I should care about the solutions to the various cases, but I don‘t. The prose is just not engaging. It could be my current headspace or the fact that I‘m not a big Patterson fan 🤷🏻♀️. #bakerstreetirregulars
