Mrs. Bantry was dreaming. Her sweet peas had just taken a First at the flower show. The vicar, dressed in cassock and surplice, was giving out the prizes in church.

Pickpick

Aside from a couple of very bizarre statements about sexual assault, I actually liked this Miss Marple mystery more than I expected to for a late Christie. The twists and turns are enjoyable, with just enough clues to keep me guessing. As always Emilia Fox's narration is excellent. And now I want to go on a guided tour of historic homes and gardens in England.

willaful I think she actually wrote both this and Curtain fairly early on, but had them published posthumously. 4w
ImperfectCJ @willaful This is a follow-up to A Caribbean Mystery (1964) and was published in 1971, so before her death. 4w

4.50 from Paddington by Agatha Christie was a wonderful warming read with quirky characters, comedy and of course, the Jane Marple.

Current read is collection of shorts from https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/41170, and finally reading something by Margaret Oliphant, Hoffmann and MR James.

“The great thing in these cases is to keep an absolutely open mind. Most crimes, you see, are so absurdly simple.”

This afternoon I saw a local production of Agatha Christie's Mousetrap, apparently the longest running stage production in the world. It was such a fun play!

AnnCrystal 🆒👏🏼🎭👍🏼💝. 2mo
Jeg I‘ve seen it in London and not so long ago here in my home town. 2mo
majkia I saw it in London in the 70s. 2mo
bookandbedandtea @Jeg @majkia I'm envious! I haven't been to London, much less seen a play there, but it's on my bucket list. 😊 2mo

Finishing my journey with Miss Marple with this collection of all her short stories. I didn't realize that Marple was first introduced to the world in short story form & it was really interesting to read these. I enjoyed finally witnessing Sir Henry's meeting the unassuming old woman and his surprise & awe of her hidden talents for solving mysteries. This collection also contains her final cases & I will definitely miss her quiet efficiency

Oh my goodness. This is at the British Library! They have the most wonderful exhibitions always beautifully presented and usually only on for 3 months. Dame Agatha has a 6 month run! They‘re obviously expecting it to be busy! Can‘t wait 😝

Lizpixie Oh I‘m so jealous! I was first given a Dame Agatha to read at 7yrs old by my Auntie Lilla & fell in love with not just her but the whole genre. It was Sparkling Cyanide & I found a 1st Edition of it in a beautiful little second hand bookstore in Katoomba, Blue Mountains NSW & it‘s the star of my Dame Agatha shelf in my library. I would LOVE to see this exhibition!🤩 2mo
Mitch When it comes @Lizpixie I‘ll post lots of photos so you can see it all! 2mo
