“If anyone take away this book, let him die the death; let him be fried in a pan; let the falling sickness and fever size him; let him be broken on the wheel, and hanged. Amen.”

The scribes of yore would have been pleased to find Litsy, I think 😂 An older article on medieval curses to protect one's books, brought to my attention by Vox: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/protect-your-library-the-medieval-way-with...

Susannah Precisely. This is exactly what I want when I loan a book and never get it back. 1w
Tanisha_A Bahahaha! I will use that on a note slyly inserted in the book while lending to people. 1w
Cathythoughts Great post 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 1w
batsy @BarbaraBB @rohit-sawant @Centique @Susannah @Tanisha_A Isn't it perfect! Just a threat like "Let him die the death" sounds so ominous ? 1w

This was a good introduction to some of the non-canonical books of the Bible.

Lcsmcat I love the teenage Jesus stories in the apocrypha! 2mo
Slajaunie The Bible was composed at the end of the forth century. How can this person know this? 2mo
quirkyreader @Slajaunie That is a good question to pose. The study of these books can take years. And then of course there is the usual archeological testing of the manuscripts and so forth. 2mo
Slajaunie Interesting. 2mo

I really enjoyed this one. Tish gave some good reminders about how everything we do is a part of something bigger.

I'm currently teaching a course on the #Trinity for deacon candidates in our diocese. This week we're covering the Trinity in the liturgy and I'm struck again by the rich theological language and insights of the prayers of the Mass. #Catholic #liturgy
