pickSid and I loved this book about our hero Steve Irwin. Wonderfully accessible for the youth, informative about wildlife and Steve‘s life, and celebratory about his work. Sid‘s pretty gutted about the ending (chapter 9 is a bit intense). A very lucky community library find which will be a firm fave in Sid‘s library for years to come.
This story would be amazing for young readers who are learning to count, or used in a integrated curriculm of math and reading
pickThe story of a clever monkey who embarks on a journey to find and count crocodiles. The monkey lives on an island and is bothered by a mosquito that makes it difficult to sleep. To escape the mosquito, the monkey decides to go to another island where there are no crocodiles.
I don't know why this made me laugh so much, but the author/illustrator has a label of "A very dapper looking human" next to the man shown for scale with these different crocodiles. ?

Rereading for details: the kids ask why Bob has a cast in only this picture. I told them I'd ask the author. They didn't believe me. I messaged him on Instagram, and he got back to me within the hour. "Bob has gout, a build up of Utica (sic uric) acid in the joints of his foot. It's from a diet of very rich food. It was referenced as '"The disease of kings'" because only the wealthy class could afford such culinary luxuries."
