This was cute! The miscommunication plot is famously my least favorite trope, but I had a good time! Stella and Michael had hella chemistry, even as I was cringing on their behalf‘s through several scenes.

8/10 insightful read into the mind of an autistic man looking for love! Provides a different way of looking at emotions and how our brains work when we choose our partners, how our actions and what they mean to us in our own head can be perceived completely differently to observers. Ron is a heart warming character. Rosie is also likeable. The novel is sprinkled with interesting genetic facts. The side character Gene is a good side plot.

Here‘s a video on why it looks like Autism “maybe” increasing. https://youtu.be/S0l9El7bg44?si=LnK2979IwJBjzeRJ

ncsufoxes The other things that the video does not mention is: girls were largely dismissed from early autism diagnosis, also many non White children, particularly Black children were diagnosed with things like intellectual or behavioral disorders, not Autism. There is also a lack in consistency in evaluation methods/standards. The ADOS has become the tool to use, but it is not used correctly all the time. And the ADOS has only been really used in the last 3mo
ncsufoxes few years. Plus many different communities have not always had access or availability to psychologists for evaluations. Or taking in cultural norms for evaluation purposes, since most evaluations tools are normed on white males (there has been a push to change & update evaluations measures but it‘s an extensive & expensive process). ncsufoxes Additionally Autism was initially diagnosed as a childhood seizure disorder. I‘m pretty sure this was mentioned in Neurotribes & I think (it‘s been many years since I‘ve read it many years ago) the tagged book also discusses the history of Autism. As an anthropologist he does a really nice overview of Autism & changing diagnostic criteria in the DSM. It was written in 2007, so none of the updated info is in there. I probably need to reread it 3mo

Bump. Autism isn‘t caused by pregnant women taking acetaminophen/tylenol. Way to blame the mother/woman. There‘s a large genetic component. Please question everything this man and administration say.

CBee As the mother of an autistic child, I thank you for posting this 💚 3mo
Lands It was hard to watch his speech. He did say somewhere in there that it‘s his opinion. 3mo
TieDyeDude Drumpf and R-FKer continuing the legacy of ignoring women's pain and blaming them for anything they can't handle. Pathetic and dumb. 3mo
kspenmoll Totally get it. The genetics are so clear in my family & my husband‘s. 3mo

FDT. FRFK. The dumbest presidential address yet?

TieDyeDude BTW, any advise on buying stock in Tylenol while the price is dropping? 😜 3mo
AmyG Honestly. The utter stupidity. Trump is probably blaming Tylenol because he can‘t say a acetaminophen. (edited) 3mo
willaful Would love to see a lawsuit from them.

I discovered after his death that my father was trying to prove this theory, which was enough for me to know it's complete crap.

Aims42 I‘d rather trust the doctors and scientists rather than a man who eats at McDonald‘s every day and a man who eats roadkill 🙄 3mo
willaful @Aims42 word! How on earth are we supposed to take them seriously? 3mo

RamsFan1963 Don't you love how Captain Bonespurs has the gall to tell women to just deal with the pain, and not take a pain reliever that has been proven reliable, safe and effective. I'd like to see DT stand the pain of pregnancy, much less child birth. FDT FRFKJ!! They have no reliable science to back up their accusations, but stop calling autism a f'en disease!!! 3mo

@TheAromaofBooks @Jerdencon Do any of these sound good for #TravelingThrills?

See All 7 Comments
Jerdencon I haven‘t read any - all sound good but my first two choices would be her every fear and the tagged book. 5mo
TheAromaofBooks Her Every Fear is the only one of these I've read, but I actually would be totally down for a reread because all I remember is that I really liked it (and also legit checked my closets whenever I got home from work every day!) The others sound good, too, so whichever one you choose should be good with me!! 5mo
bookandbedandtea @Jerdencon @TheAromaofBooks Based on your comments, especially Sarah's about checking closets 😬, I think we have a winner in Her Every Fear! 5mo
