I‘m only a chapter behind now... but I have to say I always love this chapter when I get here. The meeting of old friends long separated by strife and danger are reunited and get a chance to catch up a little. It‘s the first real respite in The Two Towers which starts with grief and runs pretty much nonstop, from danger to danger, until this point. A fun respite and reunion before the final battles.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers Yes! We start with a death, a funeral....kidnappings and relentless march by the kidnapped and the would-be rescuers. Then some quick meetings as both groups are swept up into two separate big battles. Whenever I get to Flotsam, I know this part of the party will be reunited, get to catch-up and know the other is well...at least for a short time before they are spilt apart again, and then until the final battle. Merry and ... 1w

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers ... Pippin‘s greeting from the top of the pile always makes me smile. There is a bit of their carefree selves peeking through again, and the others playful teasing about it....you get smoke rings and second lunch, it‘s the feeling from early on...and all of that before they split again and go their separate ways into the final huge battles. 1w

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers So a chapter that always makes me smile and sigh in relief. Both because they have survived, and survived as themselves....they can still smile and joke, etc. so I guess both that they have lived and that they haven‘t been altered by the horrible things that have befallen all of them. They are still at their core untarnished by the dark they‘ve faced.... if that makes sense...and have the freedom and safety to express that again. 1w

Daisey You make a very good point with this post! Also, you got ahead of me! I didn‘t get caught up over the weekend and doubt I‘ll get to more than a chapter a day during this week. 1w

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey Just keep chugging away and you‘ll get there. 😉. And now that I‘m thinking about this more, it‘s really the only happy reunion, relaxation any of them get between the breaking of the fellowship at the beginning of the Two Towers until the end of The Return of the King. It‘s the only real spot of rest for the majority of the group since their stay at both elven strongholds, both of which were in the Fellowship of the Ring. 1w
