There was a time when I would have chosen to ignore a reasonable bed time and risk my attitude being that of a grouchy 3 year old in the name of 100 pages. Last night I chose sleep. Is this maturity?

pickI finished the third book for #SummersEndReadathon !
I quite enjoyed this blend of fantasy and crime fiction. The world threatened by toxic leviathans was interesting and different enough from any other fantasy series I‘ve encountered. The characters were well drawn and believable. Dinios Kol is an engraver. He‘s been genetically augmented to have an edectic memory. He‘s a new assistant to the eccentric yet brilliant investigator Ana Dolabra.
pickI started this morning by baking these sourdough rolls and reading this book, a sequel to Misty of Chincoteague, that I happened across as we were sorting through things at my grandparents‘ house. It‘s another story of the pony penning on the island and the kids taking care of an orphaned foal.

Finished my second book for the readathon. Thematically similar to The Remains of the Day, this is narrated by an older man in postwar Japan grappling with his own complicity with the past and Imperial Japan and with the new generation who view his choices through a different lens under the American occupation. Only two more novels left and I will be an Ishiguro completist.
I wanted to hit the ground running today and get EVERYTHING done, but there are certain rules about what you can get done when a cat lays on your lap. #SummersEndReadathon it is.
