#book5 for #bookisholympics #rioolympics
What can I say? It's Zafon and is short ☺️

TheLondonBookworm Love Zafron! Haven't read this one though- will be interested to see what you think! 8y
MrBook Wow, interesting cover! 8y
Simona @MrBook I was intrigued by the cover too😃 8y

Pickpick

This book is easy, cosy, simple, quick read and it is appropriate for when you have a full head. Mystery is not shocking, romance is unconvincing and end is sugary. But I like the story and it was fun to read it. Looks like I found my genre for #guiltypleasurereading #CulinaryMystery

#book4 in #bookisholympics #rioolympics Again one book behind but still #goingforgold 😅

SaraFair Love that description- thanks! 8y
Simona @SaraFair It's the book that fulfills its purpose - having fun with easy, shallow story with brains on off. 8y

Due to the madness at work I have melted brains and I need some easy reading and this one seems like a good choice.
#day4 and #book4 in #bookisholympics #rioolympics
Only for 1/2 book behind and I'm #goingforgold

kspenmoll Mysteries relax melted brains! 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 Haven't heard much about this series. It's on my list along with this author's Phryne Fisher books! 😀 8y
Trav I can relate to the melted brain part. I hope your brain starts to... er... un-melt? 8y
Simona @Trav My brain went back to a solid state. I'm fine now, thanks. 8y
Simona @kspenmoll @kaysreadinglife I didn't know that Culinary Mystery sub- genre exist and that is the big and popular thing. 8y

Panpan

My expectations were too high. Olga's dairy entries are boring/essential (I was on lunch, I'm riding, mother sleeps, etc.) and without historical background or explanation. The book becomes slightly more interesting barely halfway through with diary entries from tsar Nicholas and with memories from some friends. I would like but I can't recommend this book.
#bookisholympics #book3 #rioolympics One book behind but still #goingforgold ✌️

kspenmoll Sorry the book wasn't great. In my teens I was caught up in the mystery of Anastasia who it was rumored survived... 8y
Simona @kspenmoll This is a nonfiction book and it is poorly done. I expected some deep research/link between the diary entries and historical facts, but no, not in this book.😔 8y

Dark Corners: A Novel | Ruth Rendell

Pickpick

Quite tense story with a good psychological profile of the main character which falling down deeper and deeper with the help of a few creepy people and the whole story revolves around blackmail. Nice, but above all a quick reading.

KVanRead Good to know! 8y
Simona @KVanRead It's not shocking or scary story, but it has a solid psychological description of persons and that creates tension, just as I remember from her early works. This is her last book. 8y

Liberty Have you ever heard the story of how she became a novelist? It may be my favorite author story ever. 😂 8y
Simona @Liberty No, I never heard it, but I suspect some bizarre story. I've googled but can't find it. 8y
KVanRead @Simona glad to hear that. I've always liked her psychological thrillers best, especially the ones written as Barbara Vine. 8y
Liberty @Simona She used to work as a newspaper reporter, covering town meetings. One night, she played hooky and wrote and submitted a fake report of the meeting, because they were always the same. Except it happened to be the night the speaker died in the middle of his speech. She was caught lying and fired, so she thought it was a good time to work on a novel. 😊 8y
Simona @Liberty Lol. I work in the media (not as a journalist) and I completely understand her. 😗 8y
Simona @KVanRead I haven't read those that are written as Vine, but I understand that are, supposed to be more brutal? 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 I love her Barbara Vine books, especially Anna's Book (aka Asta's Book). My mystery group did a Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine month in January. It was great hearing about what everyone read! 8y
KVanRead @Simona I don't honestly remember them being more brutal, just more psychological novels than straight up mysteries. My favorite is 8y
KVanRead @Simona the creepiest I've read were under Ruth Rendell 8y
KVanRead @kaysreadinglife Does Asta's Book partly take place in a nursing home? I'm trying to remember if I've read it or not, lol! 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 @KVanRead No, I don't think so. Must be another one. 8y
KVanRead @kaysreadinglife ack! Okay thanks, guess they've all blended in my head😂 8y
Simona @KVanRead @kaysreadinglife Thanks for recommendations. I've added Barbara Vine in my unmanageable TBR pile. 🙂 8y
Godmotherx5 @Simona Have you read Elizabeth George? Are Ruth Rendell's books similar? Psychological thrillers interest me. 8y
Simona @Godmotherx5 Sorry, but I'm not familiar with her books.🤗 8y
Godmotherx5 @Simona No problem. My curious mind will just have to read to find out 😉 8y
