Sorry for being MIA on Litsy. I‘ve been busy with work and reading. Cherry joins the army in book 3 of the series. She survives basic training and gets deployed to Central America. She blindly trusts the “miracles” of science and medicine which probably led to toxic chemicals being used to combat malaria. If only public health work were that simple…

TheBookHippie I got book 3 for the weekend read! 🤣😵‍💫😳🙃😱 1w
ElizaMarie I've never read these books before! I think I'm gonna give it a try :) 1w
BethM Wait! Are we doing a cherry read along?! 1w

This was a reread for me in my quest to read the entire Cherry Ames series in order. It surprised me how much I forgot! I only remembered the exciting stolen penicillin plot, but the heart of the novel is Cherry‘s love of all things nursing. She gets a taste of ward management, OR, L&D, and PACU. 💊

dabbe I'll have to find a way to fit her in after Nancy Drew! 🤩😍😘 4w

Today‘s Prompt: LUGGAGE ON THE COVER

Babies, folks helping each other, and a difficult, but wonderful era.

One of those books you won't want to put down because the characters are so wholesome and because the story is so homey and heartwarming. Patience and Becky are characters you would want for a friend.

lynneamch Thx for the rec. I almost bailed after a few chapters, but it got much more complex and interesting. Also worthwhile example of government 's role in lifting people up.Really enjoyed the audio. 2mo

My father gave me some Cherry Ames novels after I became a nurse (10 years ago!!!). I‘ve decided to read them all in order for the first time. The first book in the series gave me all the feels about nursing fundamentals (bathing, vital signs, making beds, dressing changes, etc.). I got a little teary when Cherry earned her bandage scissors. I will read book 2 next month if anyone wants to join me! #CherryAmes #Nurse 🏥

BethM I collect the originals! Great stories! 3mo

Ooooh fun! I couldn‘t pass this #TLT up! I have a handful of favourite medical terms that come up frequently at work, but here are my favourite 3:

🩻Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
🩺 Choleodocholithiasis
🏥 Trichotillomania

(Special mention also goes to: Pneumoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis 🤣)

Mehso-so

I picked up this book mainly for the setting. Una is a grifter and conwoman in NYC in the 1880s. When she gets into trouble, she takes a spot in the Bellevue training school for nurses to hide from the police. It was fascinating to see what it may have been like for these women when the field of nursing was in its infancy. The image I chose was featured in the book and is a very early blood transfusion. There was also a very obvious murder mystery

Beatlefan129 (cont) which I did not care for and an unnecessary romance storyline. 7mo
