Having graduated nursing school, I wanted to read a bit into the history of American nursing. It is a shame that this book is so well-researched but still reads remarkably dry. The bibliography/source material (regarding the Mormon nurses of the Latter Day Saints, African American nurses navigating segregated hospitals, Civil War workers on the front lines, US Army Corps of Nurses) looks to be a lot more interesting than the book itself.
I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would given the mixed reviews I‘ve read. The main character is definitely unique - being a skilled thief who is blamed for a man‘s murder and hides out from the world at a nursing school while trying to solve it - and I think there‘s a little bit for everyone to enjoy. I thought the romance was a little unnecessary and the resolution only partly satisfying, but overall it was worth the listen! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I thoroughly enjoyed this first Cherry Ames book (my #bookspin for Feb). I don't think it's a coincidence that the doll Molly McIntire gets for Christmas in the, now out of print, "Molly's Surprise" has dark hair and rosy cheeks.
It was fun to follow Cherry's story, how she made friends and found her place in the new environment.
This was super fun to read, so nostalgic.

Recent acquisitions:
📖 Call the Nurse: True Stories of a Country Nurse On a Scottish Isle by Mary J. MacLeod
📖 Desert Solitaire: A Season in the Wilderness by Edward Abbey (I already had a copy of this nature classic set in my home state but I just had to get this British edition with an introduction by Robert Macfarlane, one of my favourite writers.)

Based on true events in the life of Julia Stimson. I enjoyed learning about this pioneering woman in the medical field. It was also interesting reading about the medical practices at the time.
