March: Book One | John Robert Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell
post image

The first volume of March goes backs and forth between the day of Barack Obama‘s inauguration in 2009, and John Lewis‘s childhood and early years in the civil rights movement.

It‘s an extraordinary memoir in graphic novel format, and sparked some excellent conversations with Maya this morning. I‘m looking forward to reading the next two.

Case Histories: A Novel | Kate Atkinson

I liked the beginning of the plot, but less its unfolding. When all characters are brought into the story - everything becomes predictable, but my major disappointment was characterization ... all protagonists are very stereotypical and even for this genre just too cliched. 🤷‍♀️

batsy Yes... I'm in the last stretch and I feel the same about this. 2w
readordierachel You've hit the nail on the head. Like @batsy I'm nearing the end and feeling similarly about it 2w
Cinfhen Exactly! Very underwhelming but u are much more eloquent (edited) 2w

Cinfhen Great cover ❤️ 2w
BarbaraBB Amen 🙏 😀. I too felt this way but you express yourself so much better 😘 2w
Librarybelle I love the cover! 2w
Simona @Cinfhen @Librarybelle Is a nice cover, but I'd rather have @BarbaraBB 's book with the dog on the cover ... then I would fulfilled the fourth challenge - Booked2020, Animal on Cover 😅 1w
Simona @batsy @readordierachel We are on the same page with this book 👍 1w
Cinfhen Haha!!! You‘ve made a good point 🐶 1w
BarbaraBB Haha, I think it‘s a very ugly cover and since I read #Booked2020 per season I cannot even use it for the challenge! 1w

#BelowZer00s #BuddyRead It took me awhile to get into this one. Wasn‘t wowed and probably won‘t continue on with the series. Saving most comments for next weeks discussion 🤓

Cinfhen I didn‘t hate it @4thhouseontheleft but it won‘t stay with me either 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w

BarbaraBB So much prompts again! I just started it and really like the beginning. Let‘s see where it goes! 3w
erzascarletbookgasm All those prompts ✔️ 👏 3w
Cinfhen Always a silver lining @erzascarletbookgasm @BarbaraBB 😇 3w
emilyhaldi Hmmm well maybe I‘ll skip this one after all. I‘m not big on mystery / thriller books so unless it was a standout story I probably won‘t like it... 3w
Cinfhen It felt pretty ordinary to me @emilyhaldi but so far that‘s an #unpopularopinion / won‘t hold it against you if you decide to skip the party😘You‘re always invited 3w
Ruthiella Is this your first book by Atkinson Cindy? 3w
Cathythoughts Oh dear. I loved the sense of humour & the characters & the plot ... did you like Jackson ? 3w
Kalalalatja I‘m not a big mystery/thriller fan either @emilyhaldi but I think I‘m going to give this a try anyway. It is always good to have a few #unpopularopinions in a buddy read discussion Cindy 😉 (edited) 3w
Cinfhen No, this isn‘t my first Atkinson @Ruthiella and I didn‘t like her other books either. Nope, wasn‘t taken with Jackson @Cathythoughts (edited) 3w
Ruthiella @Cinfhen I had the same questions as @Cathythoughts ...I also love Atkinson‘s sense of humor. So she‘s not the author for you- which isn‘t a bad thing at all since it helps weed out books on the TBR. 😀 3w
Cinfhen That really might be the case @Ruthiella although this book felt very different than the other book I‘ve read by her. I HATED 3w
Ruthiella @Cinfhen I thought George Saunders‘ 10th of December was OK but hated Lincoln in the Bardo. I felt a little bad- he‘s so beloved-but ultimately relieved. Now I can freely avoid his other books! 😜 3w
Cinfhen That‘s what makes reading so wonderful/ we all respond so differently to the same book @Ruthiella 💜 3w
Ruthiella @Cinfhen Totally!❤️ 3w
Librarybelle Sorry it was just so-so, but at least it covered a lot of challenges! 3w
Marina_h I would have loved to join the buddyread but I've read the book before and really didn't like it. So you're not alone with your #unpopularopinion I hope you'll have a great discussion about the book 3w
Cinfhen Thanks for having my back @Marina_h You can still join the aughts celebration and join in on the discussion 😁 3w
TrishB I think you‘re probably fine with KA now 😁 I only ever give an author two books!! 3w
Reviewsbylola Like I said before, I think I bailed on this one. Quickly. 😆 Now I‘m thinking my initial dislike wasn‘t unwarranted. It was a shocking bail for me too because it felt like this book was so highly praised so I was sure I would love it. 2w
Cinfhen I‘m not sure why this book earned all the praises??! 🤷🏼‍♀️If your week is busy don‘t feel pressured @Reviewsbylola still pop in and share your aughts photos though 😘 2w

I‘m glad to have finally read this after it has been languishing on my shelf for a few years. PI Jackson Brodie investigates 3 decades-old seemingly unrelated family tragedies and begins to find connection among them. Great character studies and engaging mystery, with bits of humour. Love it, just brilliant. 👍
Look forward to discussion #belowzer00s , happy to begin a #newseries #memoirsmysteries #mandmchallenge2020 also #detective #jennyis30

BarbaraBB Yay! I am looking forward to #BelowZer00s too. Must really start the book now but I‘m glad with your review, it‘s encouraging 💕 3w
Cathythoughts Yes!! Soooo good ❤️👍🏻 3w
batsy I'm stuck in some twilight zone where I can only manage a few pages of reading a day 😭 but I can't wait to make a dent in this one! The early pages are promising. 3w

readordierachel I'm listening to this as an audiobook now and loving it! 3w
BiblioLitten I regret not picking it up from the library shelves last week. I picked it, kept it back and took Tangerine instead. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w
BarbaraBB Great review. Looking forward to the weekend! 2w
Cinfhen I swore I already responded 🤔glad you enjoyed this one. Looking forward to discussion on Sunday 2w
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds like a good start to a new series! 📚♥️👊🏻 2w

Regina Scott's newest novel is not only an historical romance. . It was the suspense-filled narrative that kept me hooked.
