And I thought my small town paid bad. I have to keep reminding myself that this books is older than I am, but even twin modern times these mall town police would only make $34,000 a year.

mrp27 Yes. My ex husband is a fire fighter for New York City, FDNY and his starting salary when we were first married was a complete joke. Sure wasn't enough to afford to live in the city in which he was to protect. 2d
LibrarianRyan @mrp27 I had a job like that in Denver. I didn‘t make enough at the large well funded library to work I. The community the library was located. But compared to what librarians make in IL, it was a dream salary. 2d

It‘s not so blasted hot outside today and the AC is cold inside. So I‘m going to try to read in the swing for a bit. Hopefully the bugs leave me alone.

Sunraven Good luck with avoiding bugs! They can definitely be an aggravation. 😁 2d
Crazeedi Bugs have been atrocious this year! 2d

Any one else find it weird when bills divided into parts start chapter numbering over again at each part?

TheAromaofBooks YES. It actually kind of annoys me haha 2d

I really hate this sheriff. So far this has been a much different book than I have been imagining.

I don‘t remember the movie much except for the war scenes.

I have to remind myself that this book was published before I was born (copy-write 1972).

esurient ...I misread your first line as hating the 'serif'; but I thought the pic was a pretty basic representative font-type and was so confused. I clearly need more coffee to get through today. 2d
Martyn_J_Pass First Blood really benefits from a whole host of context notes that come with later additions. The films really did muddy the original authors intentions with this book and I highly recommend digging a little to learn more, I found it a fascinating example of Hollywood completely destroying an authors work lol 😂😂 2d
LibrarianRyan @esurient that is what happens when auto correct takes over. 2d

LibrarianRyan @Martyn_J_Pass I‘m enjoying this book. It‘s nothing like I expected. And yeah I would say they muddied it alright. I am reading an original hardcover from one of the university libraries. The only other copy I could borrow was a movie cover paperback full of book mold. I will be watching the movie later because I am now I want to see the differences. But I think the annotations would be interesting. 2d
LibrarianRyan @trashcanman I can not remember if I said looking glass wars or across the universe by revis . It was what ever was shorter. 2d
Martyn_J_Pass @LibrarianRyan I‘m a huge fan of the films lol. I just think I‘d really like to see a faithful adaptation of the book too. The closest I‘ve ever seen is a film called ‘Hunted‘ with Tommy Lee Jones. Not a deliberate adaptation but pretty darn close. 2d
LibrarianRyan @Martyn_J_Pass I‘ve seen that Tommy Lee Jones movie. As for the Rambo movies they used to play at the house when I was a kid, popular on base TV. But I do t remember much. And what I do remember does not match the book at all. 2d

Pickpick

I adore Clive Cussler. All his books are filled with adventure, high stakes, intrigue, mystery and of course tall, handsome guys. ;) This is no different as it follows Dirk Pitt, an airforce pilot and NUMA operative. Finding himself in some precarious situations, but also showing astounding resolve. This book is filled with international debauchery and intrigue. A masterful plan is brought crumbling down.

I revised my caption from earlier today. I didn't realize how bitter I had sounded about teaching today, but to be fair my classroom had been ripped apart by another teacher when I got there, and I was still moving furniture when the kids arrived. I also got cussed out by a kid 2x today, so I was feeling pretty done at that point. 😅

Anyway, I'm reading before bed and hoping that tomorrow is a better day. Good night, littens! 🌛

GingerAntics Good lord you had a bad day. I hope things are better tomorrow. 3d

I'm about 6 chapters into this book and feeling pretty meh so far. The plot feels recycled from the first book. 🤷🏻‍♀️
