#36 down for #nancydrewchallenge

We have definitely been losing steam recently, as first the kiddo and then I were sick. Need some serious read-aloud time to get back on track!

A good enough installment here, as Nancy tracks down a mysterious missing stagecoach and its clue to helping a small town.

Nancy and friends travel to the Hawaiian islands to solve an inheritance mystery, while being plagued by a criminal gang intent on keeping Nancy out of the way.

Some ridiculousness, as expected, but a fun romp nevertheless. #35 down for #nancydrewchallenge

I‘m going to be honest, I do not understand why everyone seems so wowed by this book. The illustrations are quite good, the colors and images setting the perfect eerie tone, but the stories found within...could have been better. The story about the body parts in the wall, if written as a novella rather than a graphic short story, would have been better. ⬇

LibrarianRyan I think the author could have upped the creepy factor and had the readers at the end of their seats. The girls in the house in the woods, has lovely artwork, but the story goes nowhere. I feel these are creepy stories for a younger audience, but I feel it does not do enough. It‘s almost there, but not quite.

RaeLovesToRead I wasn't wowed when I read this but looking back at it it left an eerie impression and I wish I hadn't given my copy away! There was one story in it that I thought was awesome... the one with the sentient noodles. 2w

I feel this book has been over hyped. For a while there every October people pulled it‘s dark pages out and said it was the haunted house book middle graders are craving. I heard everything from a middle grade version of House on Haunted Hill, to a shorter version of Rose Madder. Ummmmmm, I think not. To me this feels more like Flowers in the Attic by way of Brian Selznick without the incest.

DGRachel Well, at least it skips the incest... 😱 1mo

Nancy‘s at it again, solving a Mardi Gras mystery in NOLA! A supposedly haunted showboat deep in the bayou, a belle‘s fiancé who isn‘t what he seems, car thieves, road trips, and more - whew!

34 down for #nancydrewchallenge!

Not the best ND, with lots of racism, lower quality of writing, and lots of telling-not-showing for the wrap-up, but overall ok.

Poor defaced copy! #33 down for #nancydrewchallenge!

Nancy takes up a search for an old stained-glass window. Along the way she solves three more (related, naturally) mysteries!

Another good one. There is political intrigue, international jewel smuggling, art, ballet, kidnapping, danger - oh, and Ned fantasizing about marrying Nancy.

#nancydrewchallenge number 31 done.

Not the best Nancy, but not the worst either. Nancy adds circus stunt riding to her list of impressive abilities, escaping dangerous situations left and right as she solves not one but two mysteries! Minus points for a ridiculous feat of ventriloquism.

Number 30 for #nancydrewchallenge done!
