I found a new cover for my favorite book collection. Aside from non-english versions, I only need one more to say I have them all. At least, that I know of.

tpixie Amazing! What a great collection 🩷🩷🩷 12h

Such an amazing book! It's set in the Dominican Republic in a science fiction universe where "pocket worlds" aka small alternative universes have been discovered. Time is either slowed down or sped up in these PWs. An archeologist and her biologist wife explore them with enthusiasm, until one day things go horribly wrong. A beautiful and smart meditation on motherhood, climate collapse, grief, capitalism, and the nature of time itself. #QueerBooks

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian (CW for child death, which doesn't happen on page but the grief for the child is a major theme). 15h

Where to begin? This is a time-travel, murder-mystery romance. There were some things I liked, mostly in the second half when the plot picked up and I wanted to know what was going to happen. But overall, this is just not my style and I felt like it had flaws. The writing is way too descriptive for me. I don‘t need to know every little action, it clogs up my reading. The lack of communication between characters to make the plot work annoyed me.

Erin.Elizabeth10 I know I‘m not good at understanding time travel, so that‘s on me, but I really didn‘t get the time travel mechanics and it wasn‘t explained in a way that made sense to me. 1d
Karisimo I felt the same- too descriptive and flawed 1d

(2012) Second in the urban fantasy/romance series about a witch who stumbles across an old manuscript containing a secret about the origins of magical beings, and the vampire she falls in love with. Not usually my thing, but the first was a mild pick several years ago and I thought I might continue. But didn't until #ReadYourEboooks this month. This one was *really* not my thing (too romancey, too little forward momentum) but I did finish

I just started this book yesterday, after it sat on my shelf for more than a year. I'm sorry I didn't pick it up sooner, it's fantastic! As the blurb on the front cover says, "all at once a meditation on motherhood, grief, war, environmental collapse, and the nature of memory and time". Set in the Dominican Republic, a science fiction universe where "pocket worlds" aka small alternate universes have been discovered, lesbian protagonist. So good!

Violet is attending Comic Con where the actors from her favourite book-turned-into-a-film 'The Gallows Dance' are due to appear, when a freak accident transport Violet, younger brother Nate, & friends Alice & Katie into the story world for real. Now they are right in the midst of the struggle between the perfect 'Gems' & the 'Imps' (Imperfects) but their appearance derails the story & causes the death of 'Imp' heroine, Rose.

OutsmartYourShelf Now Violet has to take Rose's place & convince 'Gem' Willow to fall in love with her instead of Rose & kickstart the revolution. Violet knows the book by heart so it should be simple - except the characters don't stick to the storyline, there's much more going on behind the scenes than the book ever explained, & why is Violet so attracted to side character Ash? 4d
OutsmartYourShelf This one has been on my TBR shelf for ages & I have no idea why I haven't read it until now. I really enjoyed it & was actually rather sorry to finish it so I ordered the sequel straight after. I loved the 'Gallows Dance' world & there were some funny asides about YA dystopian tropes in series like the 'Hunger Games' & 'Allegiant'.
4.5🌟

Honestly I got this book because of #CoverLove

But I found the story lacking. It reads like a YA, the characters feel childish and absolutely nothing happens for the biggest part of the book.

The Ministry of Time takes place in the near future when the British intelligence services have come across the ability to time travel. They decide to take some people from points in history when they would have died anyway and bring them to the present, calling them ‘Expats‘, to see if they can adapt to life in the present. They have ‘bridges‘ to watch out for them and teach them our modern ways. This was a really great story;(cont. in comments👇🏻

i.z.booknook (1) very entertaining, engaging, well-written and hilarious. Many themes are explored in this book, including Britain‘s past and present relationship with colonialism/post-colonialism. There is a beautiful love story that pulls you in. All the characters are very full, with extremely unique voices. 6d
i.z.booknook (2) Bradley must have done massive amounts of research to reconstruct dialects and language of ‘Expats‘ from history. I thoroughly recommend this book! It was such great fun! 6d
