Winter Solitude

by Matsuo Basho

Winter solitude –
in a world of one color
the sound of wind.
---------------

I've you're following my posts you'll know I'm racing through the Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes stories at the mo. Dreaming Spies features Japan and some of Matsuo Basho's haikus, so here's one about winter for you. Deceptively simple, yet paints a picture of a 1000 words.

I can't get enough of this series at the moment. The long dark nights always have me racing through more books than usual as I try to keep the winter blues away. I love how involved the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes stories are and I usually learn something new from reading them too. I've just finished Garment of Shadows, set in 1920s Morocco and this is next - looks like they may be off to Japan but I'm not sure yet. #MysteryNovel #Mystery

Mystery and Suspense is my favourite genre, so for #MysteryNovel have chosen the first book in six of my favourite crime series by six of my favourite female mystery authors. How could I just choose one! I strongly recommend all these series, The top three are set in the U.K., the others in the US! #ReadingWomenMonth

TrishB Reading 2 of these series. Have one on the tbr but not heard of the others. More for the tbr! 6y
Blaire I went through a big Tess gerritsen phase a few years back. I also love this genre. 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB Which are the ones you haven‘t heard of? I would imagine Danielle Ramsay is one of them. 6y

Andrew65 @Blaire I need to get back to her, only up to book 4 of the series. I can bore on this genre! 😂😂😂 6y
dylanisreading I'm reading the Tess Gerritsen series. So good. 6y
ephemeralwaltz The Surgeon looks interesting;!! Stacked. 6y
Andrew65 @ephemeralwaltz I loved The Surgeon, a great start to the series! 6y
Andrew65 @Bianca I would wholeheartedly agree. 6y
Blaire Just looked back at goodreads...looked I also stopped at book 4. Sometimes I need a break from the really grisly stuff. It‘s been 5 years since I‘ve read one!! I also pace myself through all these series. 6y
Andrew65 @Blaire Me too. I have now finished the Danielle Ramsay and Karin Slaughter series, but that is partly because they are short series. Still reading the other 4, in fact currently reading book 9 in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths and about a year or two since I read the last one. 6y
Bookzombie I haven‘t read any of the top row so far. I have the last Rizzoli & Isles to pick up and the last Grant County to read too. I just finished the most recent in Linda Castillo‘s series. Well until the new one comes out in July. 6y
TrishB Yes not even heard of Ramsay! 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB I enjoyed her books, there are 5 in the series and they are set in the NorthEast ofEngland, in Whitley Bay. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @Bookzombie I do recommend the U.K. based ones, the top line. 6y
Bookzombie @Andrew65 I will definitely check them out. I keep saying I want to finish/catch up on series I already started first but it seems never ending. 😄 6y
Andrew65 @Bookzombie A lifetime and more‘s work! 😂 6y

Pretty Girls: A Novel | Karin Slaughter

Looking back through my books read over the last few years, there aren‘t a whole lot that I would consider a #mysterynovel. When I was a teenager, I couldn‘t get enough of Patricia Cornwell‘s books, but I haven‘t read books like that for years.

Of the few I‘ve read, the tagged book stands out. More of a mystery/thriller, it kept me guessing... graphically violent and sad, but I was very entertained (and creeped out). 😱

tammysue Love her books! 6y
Susanita I‘m reading it for mystery book club. It‘s quite disturbing. 😱 6y

It has to be a Golden Age #mysterynovel for my taste. Three of the best with their ever-eccentric detectives (Dorothy L Sayers, Agatha Christie, and Margery Allingham with Lord Peter Wimsey, Hercule Poirot and Albert Campion) #readingwomenmonth @thereadingwomen

jenniferw88 Hi, just had message from Mum that a parcel I sent to Edinburgh has been returned as it wasn't collected. I strongly suspect that it's your #ConanDoyleSwap package so will send it again in a few weeks' time! 6y
Moray_Reads @jenniferw88 ah, I wonder whether the delivery note went astray then. That would explain it! 6y
