I'm eager to get started on this as I'm always fascinated by the use of DNA in solving mysteries, real and ficticious.

She is one of women with whom I have long been intrigued. I have even been to Versailles. She led a short, ultimately tragic, yet interesting life. I have not read this novel but have read historical accounts. Fits the prompt of Day 1: #Queen

We do not care that we bought the shorts we're wearing at a thrift store during Clinton's second term. Some styles are timeless.
We also do not care that we're posting this on Thursday. Time is a construct, and we can't be expected to keep up with what day it is.

Talk about regime change. Marie-Antoinette‘s reader describes the last days at Versailles in July 1789. Beautiful depictions of the grounds, confusion of “should we stay or should we go?” Avoids her time in the Conciergerie, final parade through Paris. Atmospheric if incomplete.
172 “Je connaissais l‘ambition des courtisans, je n‘avais pas songé à l‘ambition du peuple…”
234 “Comment cesser d‘un jour a l‘autre de se croire les maîtres du monde?”
I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. It is the story of Marie-Antoinette as told through her own voice in a rambling, interior voice. I liked that it attempted to give her some substance but found that it never really found its place. The author has an extensive afterward where she attempts to explain her intent, and I couldn‘t help but think if it required that many pages to explain to the reader, it didn‘t really work.
Sorry to bail on this one, I just can‘t get past the age of the girls and the dialog. #hailthebail

I tried so hard, I just finished a European history class and so was feeling ready for a futuristic retelling of the French Revolution featuring Marie Antoinette, but I could not get past the slang. The world is built around social media and honestly in that regard isn‘t too different from ours, but our slang is not based around technology. “He‘s giga mad” and “she‘s just phished right now”are dumb slang words and I just couldn‘t anymore. ⬇️
Not a lot of reading this week but since I‘m resolved to not be a Litsy stranger again … BEHOLD my triumph over a skirting board! 🤣 This wretched thing was glued, nailed, painted and carpeted in. It took two days, a plant lever, half my tool box and the invention of a number of new expletives to get it loose but now the cabinet that‘s going there will fit flush to the wall (after I deal with the TV antenna) 🥳🥳🥳🥳
