This novel isn't anything mind-blowing but I still couldn't put it down: dishy, snarky, and full of people with too much money. ❤️

(Also after my trip to Europe was cancelled because of my broken ankle I thought I could go to the Hudson Valley, where this is set. Nope.)

ferskner @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage thank you! It's been a hard summer but hopefully fall will come through for me, even if I'm inside for most of it. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Fingers crossed for you!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 3y
Chrissyreadit I would totally meet you in the Hudson Valley if you went on a trip there ( and wanted to meet up) how is your ankle? 3y
ferskner @Chrissyreadit 100%!!!!!!! Re:ankle - I start physical therapy tomorrow, so there's progress! I'm excited because my ankle wants to stretch so much. 3y
Chrissyreadit @ferskner Im glad you‘re ready to start PT! It‘s really helping me with my decomposing body 🤪 I hope we do get to meet up! I love NY and the Hudson Valley is beautiful. 3y

It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Renée Watson novel! Her characters are just so real and vulnerable and delightful. Have you read Piecing Me Together yet?!?!?

Mehso-so

I thought this was a mess. Way too long, a super frustrating MC who never makes us want to root for her, and a nonsensical ending. But the setting and locked-room aspect are very compelling so that gets some extra points. Reese Picks are very hit or miss for me!

One of my 2021 goals is to read a Black classic every month, because it's a huge gaping hole in my education. Can I blame my high school at this point? :)

I enjoyed this, but found it slow in the middle. The more feisty Miss Jane, the better, and the parts where she plays a supporting role just weren't as dynamic. Still, an overall pick.

This book isn't in the database, but the only way to improve on Jane Austen is to add maps and information about long-lost buildings that I can plot against the modern city. #iloveurbandevelopment

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman

Another book I loved much more than I expected! It wasn't that I thought I'd dislike it, but I've seen it compared to many books I don't like so I wasn't prepared for the edge to this story. Fredrik Backman isn't playing around, but he does it in the kindest way possible. (Extra points for relevant discussions of current Scandinavian issues subtly layered into the story.)

Oh my goodness, this book...I was ready to hate it because a lot of snobby people were raving about it, but this wasn't overrated at all. I stayed up too late reading and cried multiple times. (But the show is even better!!!)

This delightful memoir is about an unlikely friendship between a journalist recently returned to her homeland of India and the woman from whom she buys milk. It's charming and surprisingly informative about the role of milk in Indian culture.

Oh my word, how I loved this book! I'm endlessly fascinated by the Gilded Age, New York City, and critiques of the super-rich. This book has it all!

LeahBergen I love Wharton and have been meaning to read this one for years! 3y
Chrissyreadit Hi!!!! Do you like mystery‘s? I‘m reading two different series that take place in NYC gilded age. They are fast and fun. One by Victoria Thompson the other by Rosemary Simpson. And one of my favorite authors (who has great social media engagement with her readers and is very politically progressive ) wrote 3y
