This is short book, packed with historical detail about the tribes, conquering armies, and unique circumstances around early, early Great Britain. After reading Mudlark, I wanted more details and this was just about the right length. Also plenty of connections to The Last Kingdom (which I‘ve seen but not read yet). Has moments of 😴 but mostly engaging.

Cinfhen Sounds interesting 🤨 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen It was. And he is a quirky, funny writer. Not sure I could‘ve read a 400 page book on the subject. Tooooooooo much detail! 3y
Cinfhen I get that !! Sometimes less is more 😉 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen When it comes to battles and war, it definitely is! 3y

I finished a book this weekend! 🎉🎉

Set during the end of WWII in Yokohama, Japan. Setsuko, living in the bombed out city, lies ill in a makeshift shelter. Much of the story alternates between her reflections on recent years, and the letters between Setsuko and her friend Naomi. I need a lighter read next!

Cinfhen At least you were able to spend some time reading 💖 4y
alisiakae @Cinfhen Yes!! Not sure if I‘ll retain much of what I‘m reading this week however. 😜 Switching to graphic novels for the next few! 4y
alisiakae Also, this was my #doublespin book! Looking onward to April! #MountTBR @TheAromaofBooks 4y
TheAromaofBooks Sounds like a good but heavy read!! Great review! 4y

My first book for 2020 complete! A re-read, as I‘ve started the tradition of reading this as my first book for the new year. It‘s short, filled with humor, and a guarantee to bring tears to your eyes.

This also covers a lot of challenges: #FinishInADay for #Booked2020 ; #LessThan150Pages for #YeahBaby #BBRC ; #AReRead for #MMD2020 ; and #ABookPublishedInThe20thCentury for #popsugarreadingchallenge

Chrissyreadit Wow! You‘re fast! 4y
Cinfhen Well done and all before noon 💖🙌🏻😁 4y
Librarybelle @Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen Thanks! It helps that at less than 100 pages, I can read it in less than 2 hours! A perfect way to start the day. 😁 4y

I‘m going about this challenge thing all back-to-front. Totally failed to shoehorn this into the EasyReaders section, so we‘re going with #BBRC #YeahBaby #LessThan150Pages

And it‘s a Julia Donaldson book read by Olivia Colman - that‘ll be a 👍 then.

Polly‘s looking after 2 guinea pigs, a mynah bird and Doris the 🐍 over the school holidays. What could possibly go wrong?

BookwormAHN Love Olivia Coleman 😸 4y
rockpools @BookwormAHN Lots of the court scenes for Broadchurch were filmed just outside the Uni library when I was working there, so we spent the summer watching her & David Tennant filming. Not sure huge amounts of work got done that summer!! 4y
BookwormAHN That sounds fantastic 💚 4y

This graphic novel is supposed to be a modern retelling of Jane Eyre. I found myself intrigued by the story, and with more questions than answers. I thought the ending was lacking. I am sure it comes close to the original story, but to me it seemed too soap opera. It‘s been done a million times in other stories in other ways. Overall, a great read, but it needed more.

I‘m not a fan of these books, but it was on a list of “recommended reading” for a library leadership symposium I‘m attending soon. I got the point of the book, which is relevant and good, and then driven hard repeatedly until I just started skimming through the end. Needs updating too. #bbrc #yeahbaby #lessthan150pages
