Read on the recommendation of my friend‘s mom. An extensive memoir on Betancourt‘s time in captivity with the FARC. At times it felt a bit sanitized (she seemed to have more issues with fellow hostages than her captors), but I also can‘t imagine enduring what she did.

A House in the Sky: A Memoir | Amanda Lindhout, Sara Corbett

I read this book in 2 days. It was captivating and incredibly moving. The human spirit is so strong and even under conditions that are impossible to imagine, the mind can find peace. Amanda and Nigel went through a horrific kidnapping and this story describes Amanda‘s experiences which brought me to tears on several occasions. The forgiveness and compassion she showed was truly inspiring and I will reflect back on this story in my day to day life.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego This was boring AF, but I think that was intentional to make the ending more impactful. It all kind of pops off at the end. But I didn't really find it worthwhile. And if I remember correctly, the epilogue pissed me off. 1mo

I always enjoy Ann Patchett‘s book. I love the relationships that develop often in tense situations. A great book for a wet windy winter day❤️
And a visit to a small rural bookshop near me. So good to see independent bookshops thriving!

Themes: Literary Fiction, Good Storytelling, Opera/Music

I totally get why this book has such mixed reviews. Some parts were good and I enjoyed some of the characters very much, but after it ended, I just don‘t know how I really feel about it. This is a soft pick… I think? 🤔
