Bailedbailed

It started out great, but by page 121 my desire to read was almost non-existent. #HailTheBail 🙌🏼

TheBookgeekFrau @Bookbuyingaddict I'm hoping her not best is better! 😂 2d
Aims42 This was one that I did finish but I should‘ve just bailed. Not my cup of tea 👎 2d
TheBookgeekFrau @Aims42 I'm glad I'm not alone in this! 😅 I just don't get all the love this book got 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2d
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego This was boring AF, but I think that was intentional to make the ending more impactful. It all kind of pops off at the end. But I didn't really find it worthwhile. And if I remember correctly, the epilogue pissed me off. 2d
TheBookgeekFrau @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego So boring!! What good is an impactful ending if you put your readers to sleep before they get there? 🤣 I couldn't even care about the characters who seemed like dust sheets draped over the furniture 2d
Aims42 @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego UGH! The epilogue almost made me throw the book across the room! I remember thinking, “I finished it for this?!?!?” And being super mad too 🤣 2d
Aims42 @TheBookgeekFrau Definitely not alone 🩷 2d

I always enjoy Ann Patchett‘s book. I love the relationships that develop often in tense situations. A great book for a wet windy winter day❤️
And a visit to a small rural bookshop near me. So good to see independent bookshops thriving!

Just started a reread of this when 3 books came off hold at the same time. 😐 #sigh
Image is a cut out for some kind of snowflake?! I forget. Colors match the book cover 🤣

BkClubCare Oh dear, I have been stuck on page 30 for 3 months. I think this reread is a bust. #Mar2025 😢 5mo

Mehso-so

Themes: Literary Fiction, Good Storytelling, Opera/Music

I totally get why this book has such mixed reviews. Some parts were good and I enjoyed some of the characters very much, but after it ended, I just don‘t know how I really feel about it. This is a soft pick… I think? 🤔

AmyG Perhaps my least favorite of hers. 9mo
Tamra I think my husband bailed on this one recently. I was surprised he picked it up, to be honest. 9mo
Aims42 @AmyG I really enjoyed ‘Dutch House‘ and figured I‘d give this one a try. This one went in a different direction than I wanted it to and by the end I didn‘t even want to see how it ended 🫣 Oh well. Onto the next read 🤷🏼‍♀️ 9mo

Aims42 @Tamra I‘m wishing I had bailed on it, but I was curious to see if maybe I‘d get the ending I wanted. At least it wasn‘t a long book so I didn‘t waste too much time on it 9mo
Amiable I loved “Dutch House.” This one, not so much. 9mo
Aims42 @Amiable Yep, same 👍 9mo
Amiable @Aims42 “Tom Lake” will likely be one of my top reads for the year, too. Her books are either a big hit or a massive swing-and-a-miss for me. 9mo
Aims42 @Amiable ooo I have “Tom Lake” on my TBR pile 🙌 Good to know that one could be a hit when I get to it 😅😮‍💨 9mo
Amiable @Aims42 I read “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder first, because it‘s mentioned frequently in “Tom Lake.” I‘m sure you don‘t HAVE to read it — I just thought it gave me a deeper understanding of the novel. If you‘re so inclined. 🙂 9mo
Aims42 @Amiable Thank you for that tip, I appreciate it ☺️😊 9mo
rwmg I could have done without the epilogue, but I loved the body of the book even if the inevitable ending was devastating. 9mo

After several failed attempts to get both my current read (tagged here) and these road signs in one picture, I decided to just grab a pic of the road sign 😂 Driving from Chicago to Gettysburg, PA - I love a road trip as a passenger princess. I‘m enjoying this book way more than I thought I would 🙌

Bookwormjillk I know that road well! Safe travels. 10mo

Was fortunate to attend the Chicago Public Library Foundation Awards dinner tonight. Honorees included Christina Henríquez, Chance the Rapper and Ann Patchett. Came home with a stack of books to read included a new annotated edition of the tagged book which goes on sale next week. Such a fun evening celebrating libraries, books, authors, and creating.
