What a jaunty little read that was. My first Georgette Heyer. Love discovering #newtomeauthors. An enjoyable #palatecleanser ❤️

My Heyer loving friend brought this one and The Nonesuch to our last book group meeting for me to borrow. This is an early one, and I think it shows, but I had a thoroughly good time with it any way. I found French polished Philip very amusing indeed.
This was not my favorite Heyer. It was a bit too silly at times. And I have learned that I want to like the female protagonist in a Heyer novel - I want to root for her and see her happy - and I just wasn‘t a fan of Cleone.

This was not my favorite Heyer- but a lot of that is because I do not speak French and was too tired to use google translate. The story was a Grease in reverse- and I liked the overall end result. Everyone wants Phillip to change- but when he does they realize the original was better.
@Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks @mabell I‘m not very far into this month‘s #HappyFiction book yet, but I‘ve lost track of our discussion. Are we doing it on StoryGraph, or did we decide to do something else? 🤪
Just look what my lovely colleague, who first alerted me to Georgette Heyer, gifted me today. She bought this 1965 edition online. It had no dust cover and has some slight damage (a name cut out of the title page). She photocopied the dust cover from her own rare edition and put it on this one! So thoughtful 🥰. Book people are the best. 📚🙏❤️
Ok, stop the press everyone! I got my hands on my first Georgette Heyer. A little after dinner wander lead me into an Elizabeth‘s 2nd hand bookshop, and here she is. Let‘s see how I go. #newtomeauthor #currentlyreading
Thank you so much, Leah 😘 I definitely need more Georgette Heyer in my life right now. And I love the card and bookmarks, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright ones. Thanks for being such a thoughtful friend🙏💕
PS I don‘t mind the cover at all. I have a 1960s edition of False Colours that has a truly horrific cover. I will have to post a picture of it sometime😆
I despised this one.
