False Colours | Georgette Heyer

"Reading Georgette Heyer is the next best thing to reading Jane Austen."-Publishers Weekly A missing twin Something is very wrong, and the Honourable Christopher "Kit" Fancot can sense it. Kit returns to London on leave from the diplomatic service to find that his twin brother Evelyn has disappeared and his extravagant mother's debts have mounted alarmingly. A quick-minded heiress The Fancot family's fortunes are riding on Evelyn's marriage to the self-possessed Cressy Stavely, and her formidable grandmother's approval of the match. If Evelyn fails to meet the Dowager Lady Stavely in a few days as planned, the betrothal could be off. A fortune in the balance When the incorrigible Lady Fancot persuades her son to impersonate his twin (just for one night, she promises) the masquerade sets off a tangled sequence of events that engage Kit's heart far more deeply than he'd ever anticipated with his brother's fiance-who might know much more about what's going on than she cares to reveal... "A writer of great wit and style... I've read her books to ragged shreds." -Kate Fenton, Daily Telegraph Georgette Heyer (1902?1974) wrote over fifty novels, including Regency romances, mysteries, and historical fiction. She was known as the Queen of Regency romance, and was legendary for her research, historical accuracy, and her extraordinary plots and characterizations.

#30junebooks - day 8 - #oldfavorite. So, a couple of days ago I snapped a picture of FALSE COLORS in front of the family tree wall in my living room, thinking of this prompt. Then yesterday I realized I‘d forgotten to take a book stack pic, so I found that huge #GeorgetteHeyer book stack photo in an old blog post. •
You get two Heyer plugs for the price of one! Will you guys finally let me press a Heyer into your hands?? 😬🤣

StayCurious Cool family tree! 5y
Crazeedi I ❤❤❤ your wall! And I might have read her years ago, but I'm going to have to explore her again! 5y
bookandbedandtea Your family tree wall is amazing! 5y

Ah, Regency slang. Is like a different language!

Smrloomis I have no idea what any of this means. Do you google everything or do you just pick it up as you go along??? 😂 6y
alisiakae So, are they talking about a marriage proposal? 🧐🤔💍 6y
Moray_Reads @Smrloomis occasionally I have to resort to Google but when you're reading there's usually enough context to make an educated guess. The last that really puzzled me was "tip a mauley" which just means to give/shake a hand! 6y

Smrloomis @Moray_Reads interesting! 6y
Moray_Reads @4thhouseontheleft they are indeed. Except the prospective bridegroom had disappeared and they're wondering if he's done a runner, but decide probably not 6y
jillrhudy G_d‘s ankles! If it‘s not a whanging muck of a binge-up. It‘s your teeth or my honour you muffled fandingle! 6y

Love this book. It was a great re-read when I needed something quiet and lovely. Heyer's dialogue is always fresh and witty.

Plus, this is a great take on mistaken identity and everyone comes off looking pretty good.

Side note: not showing the bottom corner because my dog stole it of my nightstand one day...

So, so good! Love the characters. Great story. I couldn't get enough! In fact, it ended too soon. ❤️ The end did wrap up rather quickly, which seemed a bit rushed after the build up. However I still loved it!

Such a great plot - twin brothers, one impersonates the other when he goes missing at a very inopportune time. The "imposter" finds he is rather attracted to his brother's "betrothed". Quite a fun tangle of events!

I am listening to this Regency romance in my car, and I'm loving every minute of it! I want to just drive around, so I have an excuse to keep listening!

melrailey Is this one narrated by Richard Armitage? I‘ve listened to a couple of Heyer‘s books read by him. They were so good! 7y
mabell @melrailey I'll have to check out his narrations! This one is read by a woman, whose name I don't know, but I think she has read other Heyer romances I have listened to. 7y

Identical twins switch places, and one ends up falling in love with the other's fiancee. #awkward (also hilarious) #fallintobooks

@RealLifeReading

LeahBergen I love Heyer but haven't read this one yet. It's on my shelf, though! 7y

I am absolutely in love with this old copy of False Colours that I found in my aunt's attic. There's something so comforting about old books (& the story itself is fantastic!)

A delightful tale of a mix up of twins. One brother stands in for the other while meeting the family of his betrothed for the first time. Finding the lost twin to get them unswitched proves difficult. Then the one twin starts to falls in love with the girl he is wooing for his missing brother... #thisshouldbeamovie and the twins from Harry Potter would be perfect in it! Heyer at her best! #seasonsreadings2016
