Bailedbailed

Gertrude and I are really not feeling this book and I‘m not sure why. I just can‘t finish this book. I even tried it on audio. I‘m over half way through and I just have to bail even though Less tries to #flyonthewingsoflove. #toomanybookssolittletime #septemberdanes
#canicountthisforbooked2018 even though I didn‘t finish it?

TrishB I bailed too! I hardly ever bail. 6y
saresmoore I bailed, too. It felt too much like reading chick lit. 6y
ephemeralwaltz Aww interesting! I hadn't seen any negative reviews around here. @TrishB @saresmoore 6y

TrishB @ephemeralwaltz I definitely posted one a couple of months! I just thought it was boring and not funny. We‘re in a minority though. 6y
MrsMalaprop @saresmoore @TrishB I have to read it for my book club this month 😬. Be interested to see which side of the fence I‘m on 🤔. 6y
emilyhaldi Bummer 👎🏻 6y
JamieArc It was very Meh for me. I nearly bailed. In the book, people tell the main character that they had a hard time feeling sympathy for his character, a privileged white guy. I felt like I could have told the author of Less the same about HIS character. 6y
BittersweetBooks I really wanted to love this book but it was just okay for me 😔 (edited) 6y
CarolynM I'm sorry it didn't work for you but life is too short to keep reading if you're not getting anything out of it.🙂 6y
Kalalalatja I hate bailing, but sometimes that‘s just what you have to do! 6y
Cathythoughts It‘s on my shelf & I feel less & less like reading it. 6y
Mdargusch Oh wow! I didn‘t realize so many of you felt the same way! I think I laughed out loud once. @TrishB @saresmoore @JamieArc @BittersweetBooks 6y
Mdargusch I had seen some mixed reviews but the cover called to me. 🤦🏼‍♀️ @ephemeralwaltz @MrsMalaprop @emilyhaldi @Cathythoughts 6y
Mdargusch I wish I didn‘t feel so bad about bailing but I have so many books to get to that I probably should do it more often. Ugh - the guilt. 🙃 @CarolynM @Kalalalatja 6y
ephemeralwaltz @Mdargusch yeah we actually should bail more often. But it's so hard to! It's something I still have to come to terms with in my reading life. @CarolynM @Kalalalatja 6y
CarolynM @ephemeralwaltz I'm getting better at it. I think it comes with realising that even if I live to be 100 I will not have time to read all the books I'd like to read.🙂 6y
LauraBeth I think I loved this one because it was the right book at the right time for me. I can definitely see that it‘s not for everyone. Don‘t feel bad about bailing - lots of books to read - don‘t bother with something that is missing the mark with you 😀 6y
Reviewsbylola Skipping this one I think! 6y

Let's go classic for today's #FlyontheWingsofLove... ? One of my favorite greek stories when I was child. I had a book of stories that contained this one.

#SeptemberDanes #day9 #FlyOnTheWingsOfLove This May be a bit left field, but this prompt made me think of Manon Blackbeak & her wyvern Abraxos. After saving each other from the bull Titus, Manon claims the smaller, injured bait beast as her own & this begins a partnership between the fierce Ironteeth witch & the flower loving wyvern. It‘s definitely a love story with wings!

Kalalalatja Sounds pretty awesome! 6y

Pickpick

I think people always question why victims stay in their abusive relationships. I know I have been guilty of it before. This memoir illuminated how easy it is to stay.

Kelly and Caleb seemed to have a love story to last the ages, but Caleb‘s abusive nature eventually shone through and Kelly struggled to stay in a marriage with a man she both loved and despised.

#flyonthewingsoflove #septemberdanes

Kalalalatja Great review! 6y
JSW To oversimplify, it‘s also part of our victim blaming culture. We never ask, why does the abuser abuse? What are the patterns that entrap victims? How do we heal broken people before they break others? 6y
JSW I got all serious. Good review! 6y

Reviewsbylola The victim blaming was definitely evident here as well. The author‘s parents either didn‘t believe her or told her that marriage isn‘t easy, she should try harder. 😢 @jsw 6y

#SeptemberDanes #flyonthewingsoflove reminds me of this classic book, though I have not read it.

A story of two British lovers who plot to deprive a rich American girl of her heart and her inheritance. ‘The buried message is that when it comes to money, sex, love and death, most people are prepared to go a great deal further than they would admit.‘

Kalalalatja Sounds pretty good! 6y
Reviewsbylola This one sounds like it would be great! 6y
CarolynM I tried to read this one a few years ago. I had to abandon it because frequently I did not understand what he was saying. There were whole sentences that just made no sense to me no matter how hard I tried. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm @CarolynM 😯 oh dear! I‘ve not read Henry James 🤷‍♀️ 6y

Bear with me...if you love literature and enjoy a drink or two, this may be the book for you! Cocktails based on literary gems, including “The Last of the Mojitos” and “Love in the Time Of Kahlua.” The title of this book jumped into my mind this morning for #FlyOnTheWingsOfLove ...go figure! #SeptemberDanes

Pickpick

#SeptemberDanes Day 9: Hard to #FlyOnTheWingsOfLove if one is Wingless. The story begins with a Princess being born. She was an ‘almost-perfect‘ child except for the one thing that supposedly defines her being an angel: her wings (or should I say its absence). This ‘aberration‘ was met w/ fear & mourning – what people do not understand they reject and treat unjustly. My Full review here with comments from author and artist. https://wp.me/pDlzr-1SZ

Kalalalatja Another book with beautiful drawings 👌 6y
