That moment when you open a birthday present and you can tell it's books yipppppeeeee, but then they end up being James Patterson books. 😩😩😩😩Are either of these worth cracking open? I have only read one JP book but one was enough to make me swear I'd never read another!!! Was I wrong??

Jessicav Same as above. I am a public librarian and more often you'll hear staff refer to his books as "the damn Pattersons" because there are so many and we get them in huge quantities. But you can't argue with circulation? He's doing something right... 8y

erzascarletbookgasm The first two books of his Alex Cross series are ok. Not my bag, either, so didn't pursue further. Some said his earlier books are better than his latter co-authored ones. Happy birthday. 8y

NatalieR I've read a couple of his books and enjoyed them. (None of the series tho.) I'd like to read Murder House. Sounds interesting to me. 8y

GuiltyFeat What kind of friend knows you well enough to buy books but not well enough to buy you James Patterson books? Weird. It's pretty clear the relationship's going nowhere. Dump 'em and move on until you find someone who gets you a Book of the Month subscription. 8y

Carol Agreeing with @GuiltyFeat - so odd to get books that aren't your style from someone who knows you well enough to get you books. That said his books are at least fast (2-3 page chapters, large margins, etc.) so maybe save them for the next readathon? (July) 8y

GuiltyFeat Ooh. That's a tricky one. It took me a while but eventually I was able to train my own M-i-L. Start by hinting towards Amazon vouchers and work your way up. Also, lend her something you like so she learns your tastes. Once trained my M-i-L bought me a signed Amy Tan! #daretodream #nevergiveup

Carol My MIL always wants an Amazon wish list to buy from, but I totally won the in-law olympics. You could make up a book club reading list for the year and keep it I an obvious location/have your spouse just give it to her 😁 8y
