Another day, another library. Today Hove Library, which has a lovely, mindful, Winnie the Pooh quote.

I know it's a children's story (or is it really?) but I just had to pick this one for the #LetterH. This is one of my favorite holiday classics, in book and 1966 animated movie format. 💗💗💗

Honorable Mention:
Harry Potter Series (really a tie for my first choice)
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

#Alphabetgame

Pickpick

26 Jul-6 Aug (audiobook)
One cannot listen to this without recalling Saving Mr Banks and PL Travers‘ reaction to the Disneyfied film. I do love both but they are so very different.
This is a far less saccharine version and it is quite difficult to see why the children loved Mary Poppins so much. Beatrix could not work it out - she continued to wait for her to become nicer.

Mehso-so

Mickey falls asleep and has an adventure with bakers in a kitchen. Admittedly, I‘m not a follower of Sendak (I‘m not a fan of Where the Wild Things Are…don‘t hate me!), but I thought I would give this Caldecott Honor a try. It was just okay for me. I was a bit horrified by what the bakers do to Mickey. And, as you view the illustrations, you will guess why this book has been challenged so much over the years.. #BBRC #PictureBook Letter I

LibrarianRyan Yep. One I reference frequently. And I get the wild things. I‘m not the biggest fan either. 2d

I'm enjoying Mary Poppins so much and can't believe I haven't read it before ☂️ I'll also be diving back into The Eye of the World, after getting very distracted by other books 😂

Afraid to Ride | C.W. Anderson
post image

I've seen the #AlphabetGame bouncing around Litsy and thanks to a tag from @AmyK1 decided to jump in! I always have a lot of trouble playing these games because I'm terrible at remembering books under pressure. 😂 So I thought I would just start at the beginning of my shelves and go through until I found a book with A... and then keep going until I found a B... etc!

Afraid to Ride is by one of my all-time favorite author/illustrators, C.W. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Anderson. His most famous books are the children's books featuring Billy & Blaze, but I love all of his stories, including this one about a girl who takes fall from a horse and needs time to get her courage back, which she does by helping a horse that's also afraid.

Brown Sunshine and Cinnabar are both by another childhood favorite author, Marguerite Henry, who wrote many famous horse books. Brown Sunshine is okay, but like a lot of ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Henry's later books, feels a little thin on character development, and of course lacks Wesley Dennis's magical illustrations (he had passed away by the time this book was published). A fine story, but not one I love.

Cinnabar is about a foxhunt - from the perspective of the fox! The hunters include George Washington, so there is a tiny smidge of historical fiction to it. Cinnabar ends up safe and sound, of course. The illustrations are ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) delightful and the story fun, although it's been quite a few years since I read this one. It's definitely due for a reread!!

eeclayton I'm also terrible at remembering anything under pressure, so I find myself browsing my shelves (both 3D and virtual) again and again for this challenge so I don't end up forgetting an important title 😂 5d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you for playing 📚🙌🏻 4d
mabell Ha! I just put Brown Sunshine in a little library! I found a couple of library discards, so I gave one to my mom (who loves Marguerite Henry and horse stories in general) and the second one I put in the little library TODAY! 🤯🤣 4d
Leftcoastzen C.W.Anderson!👍👏Yay! 4d
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - I noticed with a few of Henry's later books (Misty's Twilight also comes to mind) that she tries to cover several years in one short (~100pgs with illustrations) children's book. It makes it difficult to connect to the characters. It's still a fine story, it just lacks the heart that many of her earlier books had in spades. I'm with your mom, though - always been a horse story girl!! 😁 4d
TheAromaofBooks @Leftcoastzen - I love his books so much!!! I remember being little and going to the Columbus library for the first time, which is probably 10x bigger than our local library, and realizing that there were MORE ANDERSON BOOKS! It was SO magical! 4d
