I started listening to this biography again before my upcoming trip to Boston and a planned day in Concord. I‘ve long considered Louisa May Alcott one of my favorite authors and also find her life story interesting.

I listened for a while this morning while weed-eating under the fence for the cows. #BooksontheFarm

jewright I can‘t wait to see your pictures and hear all about it! 1d
Lynnsoprano You will love Concord! We went to Orchard House last summer, and also the Concord Museum, where the restoration of Emerson‘s library is. 24h
Daisey @jewright @Lynnsoprano I‘m so excited to be going! Orchard House is the top of my list, but I haven‘t for sure decided the order of other places in Concord with just a day to explore. 21h
Lynnsoprano @Daisey That‘s all we had, too. We had talked about getting to Walden Pond and the Emerson House, but we were trying to balance history interests, too. So did various parts of the Lexington and Concord battlefield trail. You just can‘t go wrong. It is such a beautiful area. Let me know if you‘re interested in info on a nearby historic B&B. 20h
Daisey @Lynnsoprano I‘m actually staying with a friend in Boston, so I‘ve got that part taken care of, and she has said the same about it just being a beautiful area. I‘d love to explore more of the history aspect as well, but I think this trip is going to have a mostly literary focus. Thanks so much for your comments. 16h

I finished listening to this while weed-eating under fence and taking an evening walk. I like Van Gogh‘s art, but I knew very little about his life. This book was incredibly interesting to me, but also sadder and heavier than I expected. There is a decent amount of discussion of prostitutes, syphilis, mental illness, and suicide. The story of the brothers‘ relationship was fascinating and wonderful.

Daisey This is also my #audiowalk no filter selfie for this week‘s #BFC photo challenge. #BFCr2 @wanderinglynn

Finally, those are our farm fields drying out from flooding behind me, and if you look very closely to the left and under the audiobook screenshot, you can see one of the holes in the levee. #BooksontheFarm

Butterflyamore This is one of my favorites! I love Vincent Van Gogh‘s art. This book was so beautifully written. It felt like the author was painting her own portrait with words. If you are interested, Loving Vincent is a great movie to watch and the entire thing is animated through the art of Van Gogh! 3d
wanderinglynn Beautiful! ❤️ a lovely photo! Thanks for sharing! 3d

Crazeedi Great picture , lovely!!❤ 2d
Daisey @britt_brooke Thanks! It was longer than I expected, but it really was fascinating as someone who knew so little. 2d
Daisey @Butterflyamore I agree that the author did a lovely job with her description. Thanks for the movie recommendation; I‘ll have to look it up. 2d
Daisey @Crazeedi Thank you! 2d

Yesterday I finished up my listen of Sourdough as a #reread for #LitsyBookClub and enjoyed this slightly crazy but fun story just as much as the first time.

Then I started listening to Vincent & Theo, an #audiobook I‘ve been looking forward to from #AudiobookSync this summer.

I listened while cleaning out tractors and checking what fields and roads look like as the flood water continues to recede. #BooksontheFarm

Daisey Free downloads available this week through Overdrive from https://www.audiobooksync.com, including Vincent and Theo & 6d
BarbaraBB Great. Is it about the Van Gogh brothers? 6d
Daisey @BarbaraBB Yes, it is about the Van Gogh brothers. I‘m not very far yet, but from what I‘ve seen about it, it relies heavily on the letters Vincent wrote to Theo as source material. 6d
BarbaraBB Heavy stuff thus! Interesting though! 6d

This #nonfiction #audiobook was paired with A Night Divided for the #AudioSync summer program, and it was perfect listening to them back to back. It was fascinating to hear a fictional story of the building and impact of the Berlin Wall in the 1960s followed by this book about Reagan‘s speech in 1987 and the fall of the wall in 1989. The main focus is the speech, but I also appreciated learning more of negotiation and work of Reagan and Gorbachev.

Daisey The photos are from a couple of walks today. #BFCr2 #audiowalk #BooksontheFarm (edited) 3w

I‘m appreciating the action of this section of the story and am curious to keep reading. However, as others have mentioned, I am finding no redeeming qualities in the younger brother.

I read a few more pages in the field today while helping my uncle haul big round bales. Although our fields near the river are still under water, we‘ve got a field of corn and hay to put up in the hills.

janeycanuck I‘m so behind in this! I hope I can catch up before the discussion is over!! 1mo
Daisey @janeycanuck I'm really surprised I haven't fallen behind. I tend to read it in stages, several pages at once and then stalling for a bit. Good luck! 1mo

I listened to a bit more of this book yesterday while waiting for the boat to pick me up and finished it today while working in the garden.

I enjoyed the overall story and the literary connections used throughout as part of Miranda‘s quest to understand her family‘s story. This book is full of characters making and avoiding making difficult decisions, but I appreciated how it all came together in the end.

Kathrin I just finished it too.... super quick read... 1mo

I spent some more time to listening to this great story while doing solitary farm work today. I replaced sections on the sickle bar, perfect work for listening, and took the cows a load of sweet corn stalks. Now continuing while I work on some other things around the house. I‘m just over 85% and lots of things long worked towards are coming together.

I am torn on this one. There were things I liked, yet for some reason I didn‘t truly enjoy it. It may be partly that I tried on audio first while replacing knives on the hay conditioner, then realized I wasn‘t concentrating enough and started over in #SerialReader when I got home. It also felt somewhat predictable to me in that the easy answer being wrong was too obvious.

JazzFeathers Really? This may possibly be my favourite. I really like the interchange of true and false stories and the way characters chose their destiny. 12mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I think the way I read it played into it because I can‘t give a good reason for it and like those aspects you mentioned. 12mo

It has been a beautiful day! I helped haul big round bales this morning and read another issue of this story while I waited for Dad to load the trailers. Then I finished it tonight before fireworks. I enjoyed this one and the explanation of the clues Holmes used to solve the mystery.

I had a good week, but it included a lot of interaction with people I had just met. Today, I was happy to get back to the beautiful outdoors (Yay for rain this week and cooler temps!) and farm work. I read part of this story waiting at the end of the field and finished when I got back to the house.

I liked the story, but nothing really impressed me, although the harpoon was an interesting choice.
