so-soSometimes this book got at what it was reaching for, and sometimes it was clouded by 80s conceptions and language, and sometimes it sank like a stone under the exoticising racism and transphobia of something written by a rich white lady from New Orleans. A roller coaster, to be sure.
I will say this about this weirdly constructed book - the vacation interlude sure makes me want to take a rich fuck vacation, a thing that I will -never- be able to do

• I think this will be my 3rd time trying this book. Not that I don't like Anne Rice...I just was never really into the subject matter. Unfortunately, 50 Shades attempted to dominate the erotica genre with its horrid writing. (I still haven't finished that series.) I'm thinking this one will be a much more mature, better experience than 50 Shades. Can't wait... •
Only admitting to this one for the #augustphotochallenge 😳 Anne Rice was about as close to #romancenovels as I got prior to picking up Outlander. @TheSpinecrackersBookClub
