Fiddlers: A Novel of the 87th Precinct | Ed McBain
2 posts | 6 read
Ed McBain's latest installment in the 87th Precinct series finds the detectives stumped by a serial killer who doesn't fit the profile. A blind violinist taking a smoke break, a cosmetics sales rep cooking an omelet in her own kitchen, a college professor trudging home from class, a priest contemplating retirement in the rectory garden, an old woman out walking her dog--these are the seemingly random targets shot twice in the face. But most serial killers don't use guns. Most serial killers don't strike five times in two weeks. And most serial killers' prey share something more than being over fifty years of age. Now it falls to Detective Steve Carella and his colleagues in the 87th Precinct to find out what-or whom-the victims had in common before another body is found. With trademark wit and sizzling dialogue, McBain unravels a mystery and examines the dreams we chase in the darkening hours before the fiddlers have fled.

Wow #Scarathlon2021 was a wild ride!! I was honestly not expecting to enjoy participating as much as I did, but I had an absolute blast and read over 2000 more pages in October than I did in September, due in large part to wanting to earn all the reading points!!! I finally finished the 87th Precinct series, read the first half of the Shetland Island series, made progress on the Leaphorn&Chee series, checked seven stand alone thrillers off my ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) shelves, plus read a handful of other books. I enjoyed it so much that I created my own personal points spreadsheet for my November reading! 😂 My total for week four was 1346 points. I didn't participate in any of the games or extra stuff, so my grand total score was 5220.

Thank you SO much for hosting @Clwojick and @StayCurious - I had a great time as a part of #TeamSlaughter and can't wait for #WinterGames! 😁

Pickpick

Fellow Littens, I believe you are the only ones who will understand. I began this series in April 2018. There are 55 books. Most have been good. Some have been pretty bad. I have waded my way through them, determined to see this series through to the end. Today, I completed this, the penultimate book... except then I realized it was actually THE LAST BOOK. I READ THE LAST BOOK BEFORE THE NEXT-TO-THE-LAST BOOK!!!! ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) I'm honestly emotionally devastated by this even though it doesn't actually matter. I just can't believe that I've read them all in order except for the LAST TWO BOOKS. So ridiculous. I can't deal with this.

ANYWAY the book was FINE. It just should have been read LAST! 😂
