Wanderlust is the story of Audrey Driscoll. Orphaned young, Audrey has grown up caring for her eccentric millionaire grandfather and her demanding younger sister, Annabelle, who assume she will always be there for them. Sheltered yet restless, responsible beyond her years yet hungering for experience, Audrey is hopelessly bound until she herself makes the daring decision to leave. As the 1930s unfold, alone, camera in hand, she will shock friends and outrage family as she plunges headlong into the wider world. Crossing the Atlantic aboard the luxurious Queen Mary, Audrey meets James and Violet Hawthorne, who will draw her into a sophisticated circle of artists and expatriates. And it is they who will introduce her to Charles Parker-Scott, in who Audrey will come to recognize a twin soul, a man propelled by relentless curiosity and driven by conflicting needs for intimacy and independence. Together they will spend an exquisite summer at Cap d'Antibes, then board the Orient Express on an adventure that will carry them to a remote outpost in China. But at the farthest reaches of this journey Aubrey must choose again. Japan has attacked China. Charles knows he must return to Europe at once. But Audrey becomes involved with a besieged orphanage and decides to remain in China without Charles, caring for the abandoned children until help arrives. In time Audrey will return to America with a daughter of her own. While she must come home to San Francisco to confront a world irrevocably changed by time, she finds she cannot stay. From prewar Germany to London during the Blitz, from a wrenching reunion with Charles to a war zone in North Africa, again and again she must choose between the dictates of her conscience and the yearnings of her heart. For Audrey Driscoll and the men and women whose lives touch hers, wanderlust is the inescapable element. Born at a time when women were expected to stay close to home and fulfill traditional roles, Audrey is compelled to follow the thread of events that will destroy the complacency of the past and shape the future. From Europe to China, from San Francisco to North Africa, she is irresistibly drawn into a man's world of conflict, discovery, and danger. In a vivid novel of breathtaking scope, Danielle Steel has once again surpassed herself in creating an unforgettable tale of men and women caught in the tides of personal drama and historic event. Wanderlust is Danielle Steel's finest journey. From the Paperback edition.

The international rental classifieds section in the back of every issue of New York Review of Books is always entertaining and travel-envy-inducing, but this one is the best.

I mean, whomever wrote this up clearly had Littens in mind. Anyone up for a trip to Iceland?

I don‘t read Danielle Steel, because I‘m not “everyone”! Grrr

#NeverHaveIEver

Andrew65 Me either. 7y
CrowCAH @Andrew65 good to know there‘s a couple of us out there that won‘t blindly be lead to our deaths by falling over the cliff! 7y
CocoReads I read her earlier things In the 80s when I was a teenager but not since. 7y

robinb @CocoReads that was me too! Nothing in a looong time. Guess I moved on. 7y
CouronneDhiver Haha! I hear you - No fun in following after what "everyone" is doing. 7y
Captivatedbybooks Ive never read her either 7y
ItsAngel @CrowCAH I‘ve never read a single book by her 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
CrowCAH @ItsAngel @Captivatedbybooks @CouronneDhiver woohoo, we‘re not everybody! 😉 7y
CrowCAH @CocoReads @robinb I can‘t say anything about her writing or how successful of an author she is, since I haven‘t read any, it‘s just that tag line... 7y
CocoReads @CrowCAH yeah, it's definitely an annoying tag line 7y
CocoReads @robinb moved on--outgrown it whatever. After awhile everything started sounding the same. I did bring Zoya home from the used shop recently. One of my besties loves that one and she generally has good taste. 7y
Seekingtardis Me either! 7y
Suet624 Me either. 7y
CrowCAH @Seekingtardis woohoo more people on the Danielle Steel book ban @Suet624 7y
Texreader Nope me neither 7y
CrowCAH @Texreader yay, thanks for being some ONE! 7y
robinb @CocoReads I was going to say that too! It felt like after awhile, you‘ve read one and you‘ve read them all. Didn‘t hold my interest anymore. 7y
ValerieAndBooks Haha! I read one when I was a teenager— only because my mom had it, and back then I read whatever was laying around. Oddly enough, it is the one title of hers I never see in used bookstores 7y
CrowCAH @ValerieAndBooks at least it was one book long ago 😂 (edited) 7y
Izai.Amorim Never read any, either. 7y
Wife May I compliment you on your excellent sticker placement?☠️ 7y
CrowCAH @Izai.Amorim @Ms_T yay, two more people to prove that not everybody reads her books! =falsehood 7y
CrowCAH @Wife thanks; I try 😊 7y
PirateJenny Me neither! Gah! 7y

Some of my favorites that I #lovetoreread for #17booklove. I can't count the number of times I've read any of these. Romance, fantasy, and thriller, and the two middle ones are each part of a trilogy. @jess.h
