It wasn‘t great but it wasn‘t terrible. Just good enough to finish.

Detective Holly Gibney returns in Stephen King‘s latest crime (not horror) thriller! This time she is dealing with not one, but two killers. One a serial killer and the other a “pro-lifer” intent on killing a popular feminist activist. There‘s a lot going on in this book and there were moments I temporarily got confused as to who was who. Yet, it was a very enjoyable and suspenseful read.

A serial killer is targeting the innocent and Holly Gibney is unofficially advising the officer assigned to the case. Meanwhile, a famous feminist activist on a national book tour faces intensifying threats and employs Holly to keep her safe. The tension increases page by page as Holly races to solve both cases before they hit too close to home. An engrossing entry in the Finders Keepers series.
I finished this a week ago + I‘m so devastated that‘s it‘s taken me this long to talk about it. Too much going on + too many characters. It‘s like two books (neither of them very interesting)melted into one to create an Eton mess. Riddled with tropes. No subtlety or real investigation by the adorable Holly. She was short changed here. As a Constant reader I‘m in bits. Fairytale was a masterpiece and I‘m looking forward to seeing The life of Chuck.

There‘s a lot going on here, but I was all in. Two major mystery storylines - one of displaced vigilante justice, one of religious fanatical hatred - converge. Holly Gibney is a common thread. Not King‘s best, he sets the bar far too high, but still a riveting read.
Not my favorite King. But if you read the afterword he agrees that it isn‘t his best work. It‘s lacking soemthing. That being said, it‘s still pretty good. And Holly is probably his best character ever.
Yes, I absolutely loved Stephen King‘s latest, NEVER FLINCH. You will, too.
“From master storyteller Stephen King comes an extraordinary new novel with intertwining storylines—one about a killer on a diabolical revenge mission, and another about a vigilante targeting a feminist celebrity speaker—featuring the beloved Holly Gibney and a dynamic new cast of characters.”
I forgot to pack a book so I was delighted to see this available at the airport!
That was a slog of a read. I just wanted it to be over. It honestly felt like nothing more than an introduction to new characters for his next book. Which would be cool.
39/80
I love my annual dose of King. I love Holly and all the associated characters. This is just getting a bit safe/samey for me. King says he struggled with this one in his notes and I think it shows.
I did still love the comfort blanket feeling of reading King though….it has a long history. I would really love 850 pages of horror more.
Weekend plans 😁
Happy Stephen King Release Day! 🥳🎉🎉🎉
I'm dropping everything to start reading this! Including taking a PTO day off work tomorrow so I can spend the day reading! 😂💕📚
I'm working on this gloomy Saturday. My goal is to get this whole cart added to the collection. There are about 20 more non-fiction on the other side too.
