Just a candle in between me and a full blown menty b but I got through the night with this one and while not my favorite read of the week it was lovely and will stay with me. A good distraction from mourning the world I thought I‘d leave my kids.

As a young woman, Evelyn Hugo was determined to achieve fortune and fame as a Hollywood actress at almost any cost but now reflects upon the relationships she entered and destroyed along the way including her many, many marriages.
Entertaining enough but I don‘t think I am as much a fan of TJR as many others. Her books don‘t seem to have much of an emotional impact for me.

Finally got around to reading this one. Reid comes up with interesting characters, although I think Kate Morton does the past/present connections between characters better than Reid. This story mostly centers Hugo and her story, and I would have liked a little more with Monique, whose dramatic personality change in mere days from meek to demanding seemed to me, at least, a little hard to believe.

The old Hollywood backdrop was fun, but the real joy was falling under the spell of the titular star.

Felso I‘ve had this book for ages, just haven‘t got to it yet. I moved it up on the TBR pile. 2mo
LadyCait84 @Felso I was in a similar boat and finally got to it because I needed to make space on my bookshelf for newer purchases! Am really glad I picked it up at last. The character of Evelyn isn‘t always (often?) likable, but she‘s always captivating. 2mo

I loved this book! I was in a reading slump of physical books for the month of May & this one got me out of it. I do really enjoy reading stories about fictional famous people lol. It‘s the 1st book of TJR that I‘ve read but I‘ve gotten all of her books over the years & im going to read them all now! I really enjoyed Evelyn‘s story! I predicted the reveal but that‘s fine bc this isn‘t a mystery. If you enjoy the Hollywood scene this is for you!

AileenRR I‘ve decided that I‘ll read anything by TJR 4mo
MyNamesParadise @AileenRR I‘m quickly coming to that conclusion myself! I‘m currently reading Daisy Jones & The Six! I‘m really enjoying it! 4mo

The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is thoroughly readable, intriguing and compelling. Not only is its #BookTok popularity warranted, I think that it might actually be a force for good in society at large, as an introductory lesson to thinking critically about celebrity culture, and media literacy. Is it possible to get whiplash from a book? I went in thinking (based solely on the cover and summary) that this was going to be a fluffy, “behind the scenes of Hollywood” type book. And while it was the latter, it is most definitely not fluffy. There is real, raw emotion with all of the characters, and they‘re so well formed that I was trying to match them to a real celebrity. I‘m looking forward to my bookclub‘s discussion on this.

maich Taylor is an excellent writer. The first book of hers that I read was the story of Evelyn Hugo. Since then, every book of hers has surprised me. I love her writing style, the development of the characters, the background of the story. It doesn't matter whether it is a historical or a contemporary novel, she knows how to captivate the reader. I blame Litsy because I received this book on Litsy Swap.❤️ 7mo

Fast-paced, like diving into a salacious tabloid article. Reid keeps you turning pages with the promise of a big reveal, all while unraveling the life of Evelyn Hugo, a Hollywood actress with secrets as bold as her career. You‘re not just caught up in Evelyn‘s story; you‘re also trying to uncover why she picked Monique, an unknown journalist, to write her biography. Highly entertaining, moving, and beautifully written. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ❤️📚

I really liked this book. Evelyn chooses Monique to write her story as she dictates it to her. Evelyn has truly lived a remarkable life as a movie star. She tells Monique about her 7 husbands and how she came to marry each of them. Underlying this is a forbidden love that Evelyn carries throughout her life. As the story is winding down we find out that there is a huge connection between Evelyn and Monique‘s story.

Evelyn Hugo will do mostly anything - and anyone - for power in fame and security in money. She employs a particular writer to coin her biography because there is an underlying related item that ties them together - the death of the writers father. Loved the friendship between Harry and Evelyn and everyone deserved to have a great love like Evelyn and celia st James!

I think this is my favorite TJR book so far! I had been told multiple times it would be different than what I expected, and it really was in so many ways.
The three audiobook narrators were excellent & made the three different story parts distinct.
It felt so real, I caught myself almost Googling Evelyn Hugo & her movies multiple times and then had to remind myself it was all fiction.
Loved it!

It was a gripping tale about the traps of Hollywood and how Evelyn did what she had to do to get where she wanted to be. It does pose the question of whether a man would be judged in quite the same way. For all it was fictitious you could imagine real Hollywood starlets today facing the same sexist attitudes and challenges. It's a story of friendship, passion, drive, love and loss. Worth a read.

Interesting premise and plot. The initial impression of the titular character is of a smart, driven woman using all of her assets to become a movie star at the height of Hollywood glam. The reality is more nuanced and complex. This 4⭐️ pick thoughtfully delves into important topics and offers a strong cast of characters.

Evelyn Hugo is a strong and badass woman who quickly learnt how to grab life by the balls and take things for herself, make herself great. She also hurt a lot of people on the way to fame. I think her story is interesting and educational for all women.
The ending wasn't a huge 'omg' for me, but it was a nice read.
