The Quarry Girls
The Quarry Girls: A Thriller | Jess Lourey
19 posts | 22 read | 10 to read
Killers hiding in plain sight. Small-town secrets. A girl who knows too much. From the Amazon Charts bestselling author of Unspeakable Things and Bloodline comes a nerve-twisting novel inspired by a shocking true crime. Minnesota, 1977. For the teens of one close-knit community, summer means late-night swimming parties at the quarry, the county fair, and venturing into the tunnels beneath the city. But for two best friends, it's not all fun and games. Heather and Brenda have a secret. Something they saw in the dark. Something they can't forget. They've decided to never tell a soul. But their vow is tested when their friend disappears--the second girl to vanish in a week. And yet the authorities are reluctant to investigate. Heather is terrified that the missing girls are connected to what she and Brenda stumbled upon that night. Desperately searching for answers on her own, she learns that no one in her community is who they seem to be. Not the police, not the boys she met at the quarry, not even her parents. But she can't stop digging because she knows those girls are in danger. She also knows she's next.

It‘s a slow start to get into with lots of names at the beginning but worth sticking it out. A teenager trying to solve possible murders in her town keeps you rooting for her.

I couldn‘t put this book down for lots of reasons. Lots of references from the 70s, which is when the story takes place, a creepy story centred around a town with a whole labyrinthine tunnel system beneath it, missing girls, and a terrific main character.

I really liked the way this was written. From the first page, I was sucked in and didn‘t want to put it down. I thought the story was compelling and the characters were very interesting. I did predict the ending early on, but overall I really liked this one!

Part thriller, part coming-of-age in a dangerous town story, this audiobook brought the girls of Pantown, MN to life. Not all of them make it across “the sprint from girl to womanhood,” but those who do face unexpected twists & turns with grit. Voice of narrator gets a little soft when she voices young girls, but her range of emotions is great. #thriller #recommend #stronggirls

It wasn't a terrible read. It had a very slow start, it took me awhile to get into it. But from the middle to the end was actually very good! If the beginning would have started off the same, it would be a great read.

I really enjoyed this read. There were a few times I had to put the book down to do some research, which makes me love a book more! I wasn‘t around for the 70‘s, but let me tell you what an unsettling time to be alive with murderers. Awesome thriller! Thank you @LeahBergen 💜📖

Good. Bit hard to get into at first but once I did I enjoyed how the story unfolded. Full of twists and turns. Inspired by true events.

Bailedbailed

My first bail of the year. I spent hours and about 50% in but I can't do it. It's extremely repetitive, and the character development just isn't there for me. Has great reviews, major letdown for me

I enjoyed this one especially because it was set Minnesota in a town Where I once lived. The story was good and I really loved all the 1970‘s references like Bubble Yum gum, party phone lines and having to stretch the phone cord to get some privacy. Memories of my childhood for sure.

Alfoster Sooo true! All of those references hit me too!🥰 1y

These types of books aren't my favorite. Serial killers, the deaths of young women, icky scenarios that make my stomach turn. Once in a while, it makes for a nice change of pace. I will give this book 4 stars because it is good. The ending was the best that could be expected, which did help ease the yuck. But now I think I'll read something fluffy and comforting to get this out of my system.

This was an interesting batch of Amazon originals. 2 of them I loved (Stockholm and Catch Her In Lie), 2 of them were pretty good (Belle Mer and Uncharted Waters), 1 was too short and unfinished (His Happy Place) and 1 was horrible (Shell Game)
Books not in database so I tagged one by one of the same authors.
