My worst book of October. Not because it was bad, but because it wasn‘t for me.

My worst book of October. Not because it was bad, but because it wasn‘t for me.

3✨When I read this I had no idea how to describe it in order to review it. The writing was beautiful and almost poetic. The main story line was interesting, and while it was based loosely on fairy tales it was very unique. Now with that said the triggers in this book were ones I didn‘t know I had! The main character was very hard on herself and self destructive in a non-permanent way. Overall, a good book yet off my shelves. #FableBR

4.3⭐️ as much as I tell people to check their trigger warnings, I messed up and didn‘t check my trigger warnings. In my defense, I wasn‘t expecting there to be a list of trigger warnings with this book. I went into this thinking I was reading a dark fantasy, which it was, but it was much darker than I expected. Anyways, it was really good, but it was a lot. #Fabel #TheWyvernScrolls

It‘s October… let the Hans commence. For the #FableBookClub this month, we will be continuing with Imaginary Friends in our thrillers and chills group #RoaringWolfFrightNight. This month in fantasy we will be taking on something a little darker with Juniper & Thorn at #TheWyvernScrolls. Links for both our below.

By day, Marlinchen and her 2 sisters live under the oppressive and abusive control of their wizard father— making trinkets, telling fortunes, and divining secrets for loose coin. But at night, the sister sneak away to enjoy the ballet at the town‘s well established theater. But they soon discover the city has a secret, a monster lurks within. This one took me by surprise in the best way possible! Very dark and atmospheric! 4.25/5

Thank you @MsRadioSilence! The little skeleton unfortunately broke his legs on the adventure to me. A little glue will fix him right up 😊
My kiddo immediately asked if she could have the reeses. ❤️ can't wait to read them!

Playing catch up with the #hauntedshelf book cover scavenger hunt today as I forgot to post my book for yesterday! Here‘s a wonderful gothic dark academia book I loved this year with leaves on the cover

This was such a lush and gorgeous fantasy read - it managed to be both very classically fairytale-ish and also really original which was so cool. It felt quite YA at times, which isn‘t a criticism as much as a thing I just happen not to like, but also very violent at times. I think when I was a teenager I‘d have been absolutely obsessed with this.

This was a dark and twisted tale, full of the worst of man‘s desires and needs, and the havoc they can wreak on ordinary lives. The MC, Marlinchen, is both heroine and anti-hero, lost in a labyrinth partly of her own making. I wasn‘t positive of the outcome until it happened, and the gentle horror of it struck a real chord. I feel weighted down with this book, and I think it will stay with me for a while.

DNF there is just something about this that makes me uncomfortable, and not in a good horror way. Not for me.

Horror and romance, the magical and monstrous all merge together in this gruesome gothic fantasy inspired by The Grimm Brothers‘ “Juniper Tree.” This is a viscerally potent story about surviving familial abuse, finding your power, and the potential of love for mutual self-liberation, that captures all the beauty and gore of the old fairy tales with a live, beating, and fiercely feminist heart all its own. A wonder.

Good news: This came yesterday and it sounds brilliant as my 4th book for #SuperSeptember #readathon Bad news: I just tested positive for Covid again & I feel like shit so may not get much of it read. Yay🤒Looks like my week will be fun. How‘s yours?

I loved 'The Wolf and the Woodsman', so when I heard there was going to be a new book set much later in the same universe I was really excited.
I... really didn't care for this one. I didn't particularly like any of the characters and found a lot of it unnecessarily erotic. I don't mind sex scenes, but I swear every third page was the main character talking about her nipples. 😅😬
