I had some expectations for this book, and they were ALL delivered on. Probably my favourite other than the first of the series, and I'm genuinely sad there aren't more for me to read right now. I bought the second novella and a short story collection, but those aren't full novels. May start the series over from the beginning.
I was gonna be very upset if there weren't any inquisition in this book, but I don't have to.
I like the rivers of London series, so much so that I had to check several times while reading the first chapter as it felt like I had already read this one. According to my logs, I did not but the Silver vaults of London felt familiar.... I wonder in which book I read about them ? Any idea ?
After a flash of light that knocked out the CCTV cameras, a thief trying to hold up the London Silver Vault is found dead with a neat hole in his chest and no heart. Can Peter Grant and the denizens of the Folly discover what happened and prevent it from happening again?
Given the title and a pretty heavy hint in the blurb I think most people expect at least part of the answer. Of the 2 major events in the epilogue, 1 was expected, and 1 not.
Started a re-listen of this fun audio book: can‘t wait for the next book in the series
The newest case of victims murdered over possibly enchanted silver rings is business as usual for the magical police of the Folly. And then an angel shows up.
I really enjoyed this one! Peter trying to juggle a complicated case with the impending birth of the twins was charming. I continue to love the humor & world building. More of the secondary characters I love (& the foxes!), & an intriguing ending for the future of the series. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
There‘s finally enough sunshine and warmth to read outside again. And the latest book in my favourite series just came in at the library. Serendipity! Also tea in the awesome mug @Rissreads gave me! 😘
"It's hardly likely to be an actual biblical Angel," he said when I'd finished.
"Why not?"
"In a world chock full of murderous blaspheming bastards, why would an omnipotent and omniscient deity pick a couple of obscure Brits to do away with in such a public manner?"
"Maybe they did something particularly bad?"
"Have you looked at the news recently?" ?
Currently reading. Need to go to bed but finding it hard to put this one down!
It‘s always a joy to be back with Peter Grant and Nightingale, especially as narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. That said, this book was missing something. I kept forgetting who the villain was even though, in theory, that character should‘ve been interesting. Aaronovitch does better when there‘s an overarching big bad like the Faceless Man. We drove down to the Mississippi coast just to get my husband out of the house. It was nice. #audiowalk
Aaaaand I'm done with the Rivers of London novels.
I have the "Tales of the Folly" and a few short stories left.
Lots of things happening. Lesley, Bev, Thomas, Molly, Toby, an avenging angel,...
Of course I‘m going to devour a new Rivers of London book in a day. That‘s just what I do! This was fun.
The latest Rivers of London was just the antidote for a bit of a reading slump. After 8 books I worried I might be getting tired of the series but there are some excellent developments here to make me rededicate myself to it! Very cool larger magical world plot points as well as Peter‘s personal life made for a fun read. Very satisfying indeed. I do wish there was more Nightingale though…

I listened to this as an audio book & the narration was fantastic!
Always so satisfying - Aaronovitch keeps the plots fresh & the history lessons engaging while keeping the fans happy. Such a snappy writer, with lots of wit & a great ear & warm heart for his characters. This chapter contains possibly the funniest Monty Python reference I've ever come across (I lol'ed!) & my girl Beverly gets her time in the spotlight - as is only right. LOVE.
“… but then most plain clothes officers aren‘t called upon to face down unicorns, sentient mould and the occasional carnivorous tree.”
I love the random humour in this series.
I really enjoyed this 9th installment in the Rivers of London series. This is a series I always both listen to as well as read because I love the performances of Kobna Holdbrook-Smith so much. My only complaint is that Nightingale seemed underutilized in this book. I hope to see more of him in the next one.
I‘m totally in love with Peter Grant and the whole Rivers of London world. All the gang is back including, a surprise. Paranormal shenanigans ( and a couple of grisly murders) ensue. The actor who reads these stories is phenomenal. Not the best in the series but very enjoyable.
Yay ! A new Rivers of London book ! My hold came in and I‘ve been happily listening to the audiobook- Peter Grant and his Folly friends are back at work. 💚🐉
