ONE DEAD BODY. TWELVE SUSPECTS. TWENTY-FOUR-HOUR DARKNESS. 'The kind of heart-pounding, sleep-stealing read that you want to recommend to everyone you meet. An absolutely thrilling book' CASS GREEN 'Chilling and atmospheric . . . had me turning the pages late into the night' MARK EDWARDS 'Tense, thrilling and unpredictable, with one of the most unique and dangerous settings imaginable' ALLIE REYNOLDS 'Set against the dangerous sub-zero temperatures end endless night of the Antarctic... Brilliantly atmospheric and terrifying' CATHERINE COOPER 'Tense, twisted and quite literally chilling - a locked room mystery in a unique setting where no one can be trusted' SUSI HOLLIDAY 'Atmospheric, original and full of tension' AMANDA JENNINGS 'A real edge-of-the-seat plot. I loved it. Original and accomplished' J.A. CORRIGAN In the most inhospitable environment - cut off from the rest of the world - there's a killer on the loose. A&E doctor Kate North has been knocked out of her orbit by a personal tragedy. So when she's offered the opportunity to be an emergency replacement at the UN research station in Antarctica, she jumps at the chance. The previous doctor, Jean-Luc, died in a tragic accident while out on the ice. The move seems an ideal solution for Kate: no one knows about her past; no one is checking up on her. But as total darkness descends for the winter, she begins to suspect that Jean-Luc's death wasn't accidental at all. And the more questions she asks, the more dangerous it becomes . . . Readers are already gripped by The Dark: 'A spin on the classic whodunnit. This book literally gave me heart palpitations' ***** 'Darkly dangerous with a keen sense of place' **** 'What a GRIPPING BOOK --- I had to remind myself to breathe at times and unclench my jaw: that is how deep I got into it' ***** 'Such a thrilling, gripping and page-turning read which I totally recommend to all who love dark thrillers!' ****

I‘m giving this book a pick the unique setting. It‘s winter in Antarctica and a doctor has to be flown in to a UN research facility to replace the last doctor who died. Even though she‘s still recovering from wounds she suffered in an accident she quickly can tell that something is wrong. The issues I had with this book are: why would the UN pick a prescription painkiller addicted doctor? Why was the station chief so chill about murder? ⭐️⭐️⭐️

#ScarathlonDailyPrompts #Day11 #Dark I read this one around Xmas. It‘s a thriller set at the UN Research station in Antarctica where they all get picked off one by one during the winter in the dark. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 6pts

I really enjoyed the murder plot, I liked the twists and the pacing and the Antarctic setting was really atmospheric and creepy. Having said that, I really didn‘t need the focus on the MC and her substance abuse issues and unresolved feelings about her ex boyfriend. Those things weren‘t really gone into on much detail so it didn‘t really feel deep, just a distraction from the murder. I felt like that could so easily have just not been there

When the new doctor at a remote Antarctic research facility learns her predecessor died under mysterious circumstances, she begins digging into the case. She soon realizes exactly how grave her mistake is when one of the few winter staff turns up dead. Now she‘s trapped until the end of the season and can‘t be sure who she can trust!

I loved this! It‘s a fun snowed in suspense read!

I loved this! A group on a research base over winter struggle to survive when someone is killing team members. Trapped in freezing temperatures and 24 hour darkness the setting was amazing. If I hadn't known better I would have believed the author had been to Antarctica. While I did predict the ending, I loved the ride getting there. I do wish the main character was slightly less annoying and I would have liked more romantic drama.

Bk4 of December & #WinterGames2021 is done! I was looking forward to this one but I must admit,I‘m underwhelmed.A locked room mystery set on an Antarctic base during winter, the setting was well written but the plot was a bit predictable.Oh well, better luck next time🤷🏻‍♀️ #AVeryMerryBingo #MerryBookmas2021 #TisTheReadson #AVeryMerryReadathon #WinterCosy #WrapItUpReadathon #ChristmasFilmsReadathon #DecembersBookBingo #MistletoeManiacs 2,826pts👇

I really wanted to love this, I love reading about Antarctica. But I found it to be just a middling murder mystery. It was fine.

Audiowalking in Antarctica (well the book is in Antarctica, it's not quite so cold where Daisy and I are).

squirrelbrain Sounds like a good book! 3y
Oryx @squirrelbrain it's ok - I love the premise, but it's kind of a middle of the road murder mystery at the moment. But that could change. Although I'm enjoying the setting very much. But currently definitely a borrow don't buy type - fairly entertaining but nothing that will stick with you. 3y

squirrelbrain Ah well, maybe not then! 🤔 3y
Oryx @squirrelbrain it is good enough for me finish it though 🙂 and I'm a bailer as you know 😉 3y
squirrelbrain But you know I‘d keep on pushing through until the bitter end, even if I didn‘t like it; being the non-bailer that I am! 3y

An exciting and suspenseful murder mystery which had me gripped until the last page. It‘s a real chiller thriller in more than one sense of the word! I love the setting, it gave me the shivers. The tension racks up beautifully, I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. It did get a little incredulous and unbelievable on occasions but, hey ho, that‘s literary licence for you. A rollicking good read! #Pigeonhole

I love books set in places like Antarctica so this was a must-read for me. It was largely enjoyable,& the author really managed to get across the claustrophobic feel of being stuck on an isolated research station in almost total darkness. It was a thrilling read, even if I did work out the killer from early on, it didn't spoil things. 4🌟

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

The dark winter months of Antarctica make this a fun twist on the locked-room murder mystery trope! #TheDark #NetGalley #Antarctica
