I am honestly not familiar with the author, but this was a bookclub pick and it was good.

There are a lot of heavy topics- fertility struggles, sexual assault, suicidal thoughts, and racism. But some lighter and beautiful stories as well.

I think we‘ll have a good bookclub discussion.

I like Union‘s narration, so I chose to listen. Like her first book, this has serious & funny stories. I learned something about peri-menopause (who knew you could learn medical info from a celeb?!) & especially enjoyed her journeys with surrogacy & raising a transgender child.

I loved “we‘re going to need more wine,” and am looking forward to getting into this one. Spending some time this morning at my library‘s cafe with a cafe au lair and this book.

I loved her first book and this one was just as good, if not better. Wonder what she‘ll do for a third? I certainly hope there is a third!

#memoir

I put this audiobook on hold as soon as I finished her first one. Now I am very much hoping she is working on a third. I may have liked the previous one slightly more but this book still had me laughing, nodding along, and deeply moved by the stories she shares. Consider me a huge fan.

Her first book was so honest & touched on so many great topics, I was surprised to hear she had another. This felt like a seamless continuation, full of stories you have to hear to believe such running into your idol while dressed as them, chased through King‘s Landing, a dance battle! Exciting stuff for sure, but as always it‘s her honesty & vulnerability that will stick with me as she discusses current events, trauma, & family relationships.

I love Gab Union. I read her first book as I began work at the corporate for New York & Company (where she has a successful line). Her sequel is also fab - she‘s a great story teller and runs the gamut of funny & vulnerable. I‘d recommend this for the last real essay alone. While I think the original was the stronger of the two books, this is still great. 💖

Gabrielle Union introduced herself to us unapologetically when she penned her first book, We're Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated, and True. Now she shows up veraciously, embracing her kryptonite with, "You Got Anything Stronger?" In between these pages, Gabrielle Union did more than be vulnerable. This book dropped nuggets from birth to aging. The importance of embracing your truth and being loved and accepted for it.

🎧 An excellent follow up to We're Going to Need More Wine.

Gabrielle Union is such a brave and inspiring writer. Her vulnerability and grace are once again on full display. I really admire her desire to reach back and help others up not only in her professional life, but in the telling of these stories.

I loved Gabrielle Union‘s first book, and this second volume of essays proved to be equally thought-provoking, funny, emotional, empowering, and passionate. I definitely recommend the audiobook and her flawless narration! 🎧

So good if not better than her first! Vulnerable and honest, if you get a chance to listen to this audiobook, do it. Union is such a delight.

Highly recommended, especially if you read the first book.

Like meeting an old friend for a catch-up, this was a strong follow up to Gabrielle‘s first memoir. Touching upon both heavy and lighter moments, Nicki shares some intimate and personal stories. Enjoyable and empowering. I‘m down for another round #BringItOn ♥️#Audio

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another solid personal essay collection! As with her first, there‘s some tremendously heavy shit, but her openness will no doubt help others who‘ve experienced the same. Union begins with an emotional retrospection on infertility. Her pain permeates the page and is especially palpable on audio. My favorite essay was about her stepdaughter Zaya, and showing unwavering parental love and support. Union is good people.

If Gabrielle Union writes it, I will read it. I love how she‘s a lifelong learner in many areas and that she‘s so willing to share about her struggles and growth. And I really like how she connects her own experiences to the big societal picture in this one. She's of course always amazing on audio.

Union goes even deeper with what she shares in this second emotional memoir.

Her first essay about her surrogacy journey still has me thinking. She talks about something I have dealt with - passive suicidal ideation from pre-menopause. She gives new voice to her most iconic role, Isis from Bring It On. She also discusses BLM and her journey with her transgender stepdaughter. Go with the #audiobook!
