#2023Book16
The new characters introduced in this book were incredibly annoying and I didn‘t care whether or not they succeeded. Dorothy only shows up for a couple chapters at the end as more of an afterthought than an actual part of the plot.

Pickpick

Book 10 in my Oz reread surprised me as being one of the best. I find that these books are most enjoyable when they involve actual stakes (not a given, the entire plot of book 5 hinged on whether or not Dorothy would be a little late to Ozma's party) and Rinkitink delivers on that front, telling the story of Prince Inga of Pingaree who must win his parents back from some actually villainous villains.

The deus ex Dorothy was expected of course.

DrexEdit I love the Oz books. I read them over and over as a kid. You have a beautiful set of Oz books 📚 💜 7y
RanaElizabeth I love these books, it's the only series I've collected multiple versions of. 7y
Karkar I want to read these books. Up until recently living 10 years in Kansas I was so anti-oz anything... now I am trying to find them to read. 7y

Bradleygirl I can't believe I haven't read that one yet! And yes, all are adorable but stakes are best. I liked the Scarecrow of Oz for that, and an oddly action-hero Scarecrow. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @DrexEdit When I decided to reread them I tracked down these Del Rey paperbacks because these were the editions I first read. They used to sell them in a spinner rack at the grocery store when I was a kid. 7y
ferskner LOL "Deus ex Dorothy" 7y

I'm enjoying my reread of the Oz books, but the saccharine characters can be a bit much sometimes.

So glad this book has Bilbil the talking goat. Just look at him. Bilbil is already done putting up with you and he hasn't even met you. #OzReread

saresmoore That's pretty much every goat, I think. 7y
readinginthedark I need to reread these. It's been twenty years probably since I read them, maybe more. 7y

This is for @TobeyTheScavengerMonk . A battered first edition that I found in a junk shop in Chicago.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Whooooaaa! It's a beauty. When I started collecting them I went with the Del Rey illustrated paperbacks that I read when I was a kid. 7y
Sace 😍 7y
quirkyreader @TobeyTheScavengerMonk My collection is a mixed assortment of different editions. I still need a better copy of "Magic" and I am lacking "Scarecrow". But recently I got a good copy of The Little Wizard stories from Dover. As everyone can guess I love Baum's work. 7y

I finished The Vorrh! And I haven't started my next book yet, so I'm posting the #firstlineofcurrentread from Rinkitink which I'm reading chunks of between books for my Oz reread. #aprilbookshowers #OzReread

ValerieAndBooks I knew right away this was an Oz book from the illustration 😊! Even though it's been years and years! (edited) 7y
awishman I'm working my way through this series with my kids. 7y
Sace I've got several of the Oz books in my shelf. I now have a hankering to read them. 7y
IamIamIam I got the whole collection one time for $3 for my Nook! I'm somewhere in the 2nd one & still go back from time to time. 😁 7y
readinginthedark I need to re-read all of these! Every time I read a post about one, so much nostalgia comes rolling in. 7y

Baum seems to be cutting loose with this one. Some actual bad things have happened (not always a guarantee in an Oz book) and now there's some discussion of eating the talking goat. #OzReread

I knew I wanted to read all the Sherlock Holmes stories, but that seemed too daunting, so I got in the habit of reading one adventure between each novel I read. Took me a few years, but I got through them all. Now between novels I read around 40 pages of an Oz book. Now I'm on book 10! #palatecleanser #feistyfeb

Crystalblu Good idea! Might be how I get through all the Alice in wonderland and my H.P. Lovecraft anthology! 7y
CrowCAH Wow, congrats on reading all the Holmes stories! 😄👏🏻 Now, you'll probably write your own Holmes spinoff! ☺️ 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @CrowCAH Playing Spot the Reference while watching Sherlock was a blast. 7y
CrowCAH @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I wouldn't doubt it! 7y
