Mortal Fall
Mortal Fall: A Novel of Suspense | Christine Carbo
10 posts | 9 read | 15 to read
A wildlife biologists shocking death leads to chilling discoveries about a home for troubled teens in Christine Carbos haunting and compelling new crime novel set in the wilds of Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park police officer Monty Harris knows that each summer at least one personbe it a reckless, arrogant climber or a distracted hikerwill meet tragedy in the park. But Paul Wolfie Sedgewicks fatal fall from the sheer cliffs near Going-To-the-Sun Road is incomprehensible. Wolfie was an experienced and highly regarded wildlife biologist who knew all too well the perils that Glaciers treacherous terrain presentsand how to avoid them. The case, so close to home, has frayed park employee emotions. Yet calm and methodical lead investigator Monty senses in his gut that something isnt right. So when whispers of irresponsibility or suicide emerge, tarnishing Wolfies reputation, Monty dedicates himself to uncovering the truth, for the sake of the mans family and to satisfy his own persistent sense of unease. Monty discovers that Wolfies zealous studies of Glaciers mysterious, embattled wolverine population, so vital to park ecology, had met resistance, both local and federal. To muddy the waters further, a wilderness facility for rehabilitating troubled teensone that Montys older brother attendedmay have a disturbing connection to the case. As Monty delves further into an investigation that goes deeper than he ever imagined, he wrestles with the demons of his past, which lead back to harsh betrayals he thought hed buried long ago. And then a second body is found.

A wildlife biologist is dead from a fall in Glacier National Park but the circumstances are unclear. When a second body turns up, things get more suspicious. This is my second read in this series and both have been solid mysteries. I just love the National Park setting and look forward to the other books.

🎧 I love RC Bray‘s narration! It‘s another slow burn mystery. I like that this death also takes place in the state park. I think it‘s a series. You feel for the murderer in this one too. Graphic scenes. Adult scenes & language. I‘m not necessarily in love with the main character as he has flaws. Flaws that make him seem real so it‘s a double edged sword. 😁 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Settling in with a mystery. This one appealed to me because it is set in Glacier National Park. Does anyone have any other recommendations for books set in the parks?

Librarybelle Have you tried the Anna Pigeon series by Nevada Barr? Anna is a park ranger and works at various National Parks in the series. 7y

March wrap-up: I'm pretty happy with my numbers, especially since I mostly watched movies last weekend. However, I'm less than happy that I still haven't posted 8 of the books on here or Goodreads yet. 😕

The background photo is from Palmetto State Park in Texas, which is where my husband and went for a picnic today. 🙂

In the wilds of Glacier National Park, the body of a wildlife biologist is found at the bottom of a ravine. Monty, a park police officer, sets out to confirm if it was an accident or something more sinister. The remains of a second body are found not far away and the likelihood of two accidents is slim. I loved the setting of the park and surrounding areas. The main character is dealing with personal issues related to his marriage and his 👇🏻

Bookzombie family history and spends a lot of time in his head. This was a random pick as I was waiting for holds to come in. When I finished it, I thought this should be a series and it turns out this is book 2. I enjoyed it and will be going back to read the rest.

Also this is narrated by the same guy who narrates The Martian, which makes me want to pick that up sooner.
