Miss Happiness and Miss Flower
Miss Happiness and Miss Flower | Rumer Godden
5 posts | 7 read | 17 to read
When little Nona is sent from her sunny home in India to live with her relatives in chilly England, she is miserable. Then a box arrives for her in the post and inside, wrapped up in tissue paper, are two little Japanese dolls. A slip of paper says their names are Miss Happiness and Miss Flower. Nona thinks that they must feel lonely too, so far away from home. Then Nona has an idea - she will build her dolls the perfect house! It will be just like a Japanese home in every way. It will even have a tiny Japanese garden. And as she begins to make Miss Happiness and Miss Flower happy, Nona finds that she is happier too. A new cover edition of Rumer Godden's classic story about friendship and family, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower.

Miss Happiness and Miss Flower 🌹🌷🌸
This was one of those books I read as a child that make a huge impact but forgot the title of. I remembered this cover image and a few details and set out to track it down last year. (Couldn‘t get it with this cover, but so cool to read it again!) #flower

New-book night with Bella. For the last few weeks we‘ve read every Little House on the Prairie book from the start up to The Long Winter back to back. Tonight we agreed we needed a break! We‘re both loving this pretty cover 🌸 #raisingreaders 🌸

#marchintoreading day 8: #guiltypleasures

I use the term "guilty pleasures" only because everyone knows what means. But in no way should anyone feel guilty about what they read!

One of my "guilty pleasures" (or maybe it should be guiltless pleasures?) is the rereading of childhood favourites like these beautiful books.

rubyslippersreads I'm definitely "guilty" of that! ? 7y
Tamra It was only a few years ago I read Capture the Castle and adored it! 7y

Aren't these children books gorgeous? I do adore them and sometimes I buy books just for the pretty illustrations and beautiful fonts. 😊💖

Pickpick

I read Miss Happiness and Miss Flower so many times as a kid that my copy is yellow and sad. So when I saw these recent editions on Book Depository earlier this year I had to have them. The story is of a little girl who has to move in with her strange (to her at least) cousins in England. They are gifted two beautiful Japanese dolls and she sets out to build a Japanese dollhouse for them. It's a story about growing up - and it's got crafts!

DiruVamp Aww these sound wonderful! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I love these books. Thanks for posting the covers. I'm going to track down some for me! 8y
