A Sweet Mess
A Sweet Mess | Jayci Lee
Korean-American author Jayci Lee delights with this delicious and light-hearted romantic comedy that readers will devour and ask for more. Aubrey Choi loves living in her small town nestled in the foothills of California, running her highly successful bakery away from the watch of her strict Korean parents. When a cake mix-up and a harsh review threaten all of her hard work and her livelihood, she never thought the jaded food critic would turn out to be her one-night stand. And she sure as hell never thought shed see the gorgeous Korean hunk again. But when Landon Kim waltzes into her bakery trying to clean up the mess he had a huge hand in making, Aubrey is torn between throwing and hearing him out. When she hears his plan to help save her business, Aubrey knows that spending three weeks in California wine country working with Landon is a sure recipe for disaster. Her head is telling her to take the chance to save her bakery while her heartand her hormonesare at war on whether to give him a second chance. And it just so happens that Landons meddling friends want them to spend those three weeks as close as possible...by sharing a villa. When things start heating up, both in and out of the kitchen, Aubrey will have to make a choiceto stick it out or risk her heart.

Aubrey‘s a baker, who has a 1-night stand w/ Landon, who she didn‘t know is a famously hot food critic. He feels guilty about a bad review he gave her, so he produces a cooking show for her. Their feelings for each other increase in their forced proximity.

This one wasn‘t great. It was kind of boring. There were a couple cute & funny moments. I liked the diversity in the characters, but not really the characters themselves or the plot.

⭐️⭐️ I can get down with the enemies-to-lovers trope, but these two had zero chemistry. And, honestly, neither one is the brightest crayon in the box. Total jackasses. Plus the later - overplayed and unnecessary - trope was desperate. The only sweet things in this absolute mess were the baked goods.

AileenRR Hated it. Waste of time 👎🏽 3y

Thank you @DarkMina 🖤 & @5feet.of.fury 🌞 for the tag!
📚1. Harry Potter, Always. I enjoyed the movies as much as the books, that is rare.
📚2. I actually read the tagged Romance last year, but I would love to see Netflix or even Hallmark make it as a rom-com.

9/10 I loved it. A unique love story, a little cliche about the pregnancy. Very visual, and I liked it a lot. Glad they ended up together.

In turns cringe-y and infuriating. I can‘t believe I listened to the whole thing 😕

Well, it sure was a mess, but idk if there was anything “sweet” about it. The characters were these sugary confections of niceness. Even the side characters were SO irritating with their sweetness & affectations. & the writing was just SO awkward & clunky. I hated the beginning (except for the opening scene, which showed a lot of promise), the middle perked up a bit, but then I went back right back to wincing & eye-rolling in the last third. ★★☆☆☆

This was a fun romp! This is my first time reading Jayci Lee, and I'm happy to have discovered her and this rom-com of a book. There is lots of humor embedded in the story and the situations, but also a lot of feeling as Aubrey and Landon get to know each other while trying, unsuccessfully, to avoid each other.

Netflix needs to adapt this book immediately and if they don‘t then Hallmark better do it. Jayci Lee wrote amazing characters, and a delightful story. This almost felt like a cozy romance to me, but you could definitely feel the passion even if the sexy details didn‘t appear on the page. I really enjoyed this book and have already put her next book in this series The Dating Dare, out in 2021, on my TBR

A cute romance novel about a woman with a bakery, a critic, and a cooking show.

Ugh—I need to give up on the idea that any type of romance book is for me. *Occasionally*, I'll find a rom-com that I actually sort of enjoy. This was *not* that rom-com. I hated all the characters (in particular the main couple, who were simply pathetic). The entire book grated on me . . . and then it was over. I like (some) rom-com movies—why can't I have that in book form? Anyway, I guess this one is my own damn fault.

britt_brooke I just finished this … so bad. 3y

This was a cute quick rom-com that I read in just a few hours! Aubrey is a baker who owns her own shop. Landon is a good critic. When Aubrey meets Landon at a bar they have a one night stand. She had no idea that he is a food critic who came to her bakery and was given the wrong order. Landon writes a bad review about her bakery and her business goes down hill. When Landon founds out he made a mistake he wants to help Aubrey and change her life!

Cupcake12 I really liked this too..finished it a couple of weeks ago. Glad you enjoyed it x 4y

3.5 stars As the title says, it‘s sweet and a little messy (POV transitions and timelines) but it‘s great to see Asian-American representation in Romance, some classic tropes, and loads of hunger-inducing descriptions of food and wine.

Full review is on my blog Carpe Diem Chronicles.

A delicious light hearted comedy. The relationship between a baker owner and a food critic is followed throughout after a cake mix up. The sexual chemistry between the two main characters is intense. So many things to like: the back story, lovely mums, daddy issues and the gorgeous food mentioned throughout. The ending was predictable but it‘s what you want as you through the book. Overall, a brilliant book which I would highly recommend.

Loving this rom-com, story moves at a fast pace. The only issue is, don‘t read the book on an empty stomach. There are so many food descriptions -it had me reaching for the kettle chips! 😂

I knew that this book wasn‘t one of my favorite genres when I picked it up. Romantic novels are his not my thing. But, this one surprised me. It was entertaining, and even brought a tear to my eyes at one point. I really liked the female main character. The storyline was very predictable though. When I finished it, I swear I heard someone whisper “And they lived happily ever after.”

Stayed up all night to finish thus because I couldn‘t put it down! I laughed, I cried, I hungered for yummies; I loved this book. Just enough angst and drama, but good conclusions. Also, Bree was strong and Tara is an amazing bestie. I can‘t wait for the next book and I‘m sure hoping I‘m not wrong on who the couple will be!
