Won this in a giveaway. Actually received a couple weeks ago, but forgot to post.
This was a really interesting book. I definitely was sucked into all the family drama and the different personalities in the book. I also really loved the setting and the way it was written. It really made me feel like I was in the story.
It‘s an emotional story which addresses sensitive topics such as sexual, physical and drug abuse as well as homelessness and poverty. Sometimes families may look “perfect” from the outside which makes looks deceiving. The Gordon family adopt Michael, a student who lost his family and was friends with Anne. Although unconventional, her parents were admired for their relaxed acceptance of people‘s differences.
Looking for a light summer read? Me, too.
This is not it, LOL.
Trigger Warning rape, gun violence, suicide, and incest.
Often got frustrated with the characters but overall I thought this #debut author did a wonderful job with the setting and conflict that this book was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me! #capecod #summerreads #debutnovels
An all white #bookhaul! My first trip to a physical bookstore since March! #coronasucks #birthdaytreat 🎂😍🎉❤️
The best word to describe my reading experience is "unsettling" but I couldn't put this book down! I love a good family drama and this one scratched that itch despite the cringey side-eye I had almost the whole way through.
The second home was an amazing story of family. 2 families. Relationships, injustice, betrayal & perceived betrayals. Self-discovery, forgiveness, &coming back to the heart of it all... Family. Sometimes an anchor can be the thing that weighs you down , pulls you under; sometimes the anchor can be the thing that steadies you & makes you strong. I loved this story & found it difficult to put it down 😁
What a debut! The Second Home pulled me in! I don't think I will ever forget the Gordons. This story was about family, life, miscommunications, & how one moment can change everything. Clancy is a fantastic author. The characters all felt so real, it's as if I truly know them. I also felt like I was right there with them, especially at their summer house at the Cape. It was so atmospheric, I could smell the tide & taste the salt in the air.
It's Tuesday Pubday! Here is what I'm cataloging today. Not a big group this time. #librarylife
If you love stories about complicated families, Christina Clancy provides a doozy in her debut novel. She provides an intricate tale of three siblings told in multiple points of views. ***Please note, there is a trigger warning for Sexual Assault. This is written in two parts, the Gordon siblings as teenagers and then as adults.

Overall I enjoyed this one. It is actually more like two stories in one. A story about the highs and lows of family relationships...parents/children, siblings and a teenage adoption added to the mix. But there‘s also a parallel story about how outside influences on those family members (prompting misunderstandings, lies, jealousy and estrangement) takes its toll on the family dynamic. It is well written and angsty and kept my attention. 🔻
The Second Home by Christina Clancy follows the life of Ann, Poppy, and their stepbrother Michael.
“It is about second homes, second families, & second chances. Tender and compassionate, incisive & heartbreaking, The Second Home is the story of a family you'll quickly fall in love with, and won't soon forget.” ~~~~

I was pulled in to the Gordon family's life from the first few pages. The book is a well developed look at how families grow together, grow apart and all the details that produce a legacy, good and bad, through the generations.
The Gordons from Milwaukee have a summer home on the Cape. It's been in their family for generations. ⬇️
