At first I was dismayed by how long and slow moving this book seemed until suddenly I was so in love with all of the characters. I felt like I knew them deeply and worried about every hurt I saw coming. There is a lot of ground covered from whether your family history decides your fate, escaping or staying in a small town, class, etc. but my love for Lucy and circle will be what lingers making it hard to pick up another book for awhile.
I finished this before bed last night and then saw today‘s prompt is #bridgeovertroubledwater. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
This is the epic story of Lou “Lucy” Lynch growing up in a small NY town and it deals heavily with his relationships with his parents as well as his wife Sarah and childhood friend Bobby. It‘s raw, visceral, and real. Perhaps a bit long, and it drained me. There are a lot of truths that slap you in the face with this one. #marchintothe70s
I have such a difficult time choosing a new book to read that I decided to do things a little differently this time. I literally walked up to my TBR book shelf, closed my eyes, and grabbed. I was admittedly disappointed when I saw what I had chosen, which goes to show I would have probably never read this otherwise.
It‘s over 600 pages but it‘s GREAT. So maybe this will be my new method from now on.
Had to ponder a bit on this one as it‘s between a pick and so-so for me. It could have been improved by losing at least 100 pages and there was a point that I almost bailed. But I kept on and in the end was glad that I finished. Are we doomed to make the same mistakes that our parents have made or does our knowledge of their missteps make them more relatable? The overarching theme of family‘s influence on a person‘s destiny was thought provoking.
I think sigh is an #onomatopoeia. I hope so because that's all I've got for today's #jubilantjuly.
I just started this audio book. I have no idea what the book is about 🙃
At the outset I was in love with this book. But like guests who never go, it wore out its welcome. Not to say that the story didn't draw me in. But gradually it showed wear like a loved garment that sprouts holes. Looking back I realize, too, that women- with the exception of one key character- don't fare well coming off at best controlling, at worst duplicitous. And males spanning the spectrum. Perhaps a worthy effort, but not one of his best.

Ima take the opportunity to use today's prompt to recommend two oldies but goodies!!!
My latest purchase from half price books. Excited to crack this one open!
Here are some books that I own with a #DeckleEdge. They are Bridge of Sighs, The Son, The Widow of the South and Before I Go to Sleep. I picked all of them up for $1 each at my library book sale. Love a good library book sale, not gonna lie! #FeistyFeb
#signedsundays #favoriteauthor on my list for the #LitsyReadingChallenge since it has been a TBR for over a year.
I'm on a Richard Russo roll these last few months: Nobody's Fool, Everybody's Fool and now Bridge of Sighs. This just may be my favorite one yet.
