#wanderingthroughwutheringheights #pemberlittens #chapter9 Wow long and dark chapter. Hindley returns wants to kill everyone. Almost kills Hareton by H saves him. H over hears C telling Ellie she wants to marry Edgar. H sulks off. C wants to marry E because she thinks it will save H from Hindley. C waits for his return and sit up all night after being in the rain. She of course gets sick. H never returns. She is sent to the Linton‘sšŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

MicrobeMom To recover. Of course she does but gives her illness to Mr. & Mrs. Linton. Boom they die. 3 years pass. C marries E, and Ellie leaves Trushcross Grange with C. Very important chapter. It is clear that C‘s true love his H but it is a very u healthy love. She cannot exist without him. 2y

The last few times I read it, I hated it. Funny how books resonate differently at different seasons in our lives. Really enjoyed it this time

Ruthiella I‘ve only read it twice, but for sure my take on it changed from when I was in my 20s and when I was in my 50s. How I interpret Cathy and Heathcliff‘s relationship definitely changed. 3y

ā€œFor the moment I closed my eyes, she was outside the window or resting her darling head on the same pillow, but I must open my lids to seeā€”and so I opened and closed them a hundred times a night, to be always disappointed. It‘s a strange way of killingā€”not by inches, but by fractions and hairbreadths, beguiling me with the spectre of hope.ā€ If you have ever loved & lost someone, this is exactly how it feels. 10/10 though slow to start

Not my favourite classic. Unlikeable characters is the making of this novel. Heathcliff‘s love for Cathy is awe inspiring. Tragic tale worth a read.

Claire Leighton trained in England at the Slade School (which also produced, over the years, Stanley Spencer, Paul Nash and Rex Whistler) and later emigrated to America. This wood-engraving is one of twelve that she produced for an American illustrated edition of Wuthering Heights in the 1930s

Suet624 Wow. That‘s something. 3y

My first foray in Gothic romance tragedy. The insanity! Was it caused by isolation or am I projecting my own experience. I couldn't help but notice the cover of my copy brought up an entirely different book on goodreads when I scanned it. Now, back to something completely modern...

Can be hard to read and grasp words, but deffo worth a read regardless, it‘s an outstanding piece of literature with respect to the triumphs and defeats of love and romance. The characters have so much depth in them and despite their flaws it‘s hard not to empathise and understand their developmental result of being the way they are. I really enjoyed this book and I felt that it flowed very well. :)

Honest review? I only picked this up because Bella in Twilight read it. ?
Being a dominant name in classic literature, I‘m surprised I took time to get to it. The book took me a while to get into but it did not disappoint. For my first ever read in gothic fiction it was good in a ā€œborderline intermarriage and incestā€ sorta way. One thing‘s for sure the Brontë‘s are no Austen. ?

#3books I hated.

I‘m sticking with my opinion of the other two, but I read Wuthering Heights about 13 years ago, and it may warrant a reread.

Chab256 I hate that some people classify Wuthering Heights as a love story! 4y
thebluestocking @Chab256 It‘s definitely not! (At least to me.) šŸ’™ (edited) 4y
Ruthiella Wuthering Heights is such an odd book. I liked it but I admit, every character is a terrible person! šŸ˜… 4y

Let me just say that it's a classic for a reason.
It's a brilliant piece of literature and even with its somewhat morbid undertones, the tragic lovestory rightly earns its standing as one of the best ones in literary history.
I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a classic with equal amounts of love, tragedy, death and beautiful literature to read this piece of art.

The writing was wonderful, especially the descriptions of the setting. It felt gothic & dark, as did the characters. I think the main idea of this book is selfishness & desperation. I say, NOT a love story. However, In the end I really liked young Catherine and Hareton. I think at that point after so much miserable fate, I needed something pure to blossom. I can‘t say this was a favorite book for me. Ultimately though, I‘m glad to have read it.

100 pages from finished and I‘m enjoying it, however I must believe that Emily Bronte made a challenge to herself to write as many unpleasant characters as possible in a single book. They are all very extreme in their faults. The writing is impeccable, and the descriptions lovely. I want to hit these ppl with a shovel though.šŸ¤ have you ever read a book like that? I think this is my first.

MynameisSnow Ok I DO at present feel sorry for Hareton Earnshaw, but that is not the same as finding him pleasant or like-able. (edited) 4y

So pretty. I love this spine. Just getting started here with Heathcliff and company. I‘m optimistic. Loved Jane Eyre, so hope to love Emily‘s work as well.

I liked the book. With varying depths of the characters brought about my hatred towards them and for others especially Issabella and young cathy linton, I felt a mixture of remorse, pity and love. As for heathcliff I do feel him to be a villain but somehow his love for catherine is awe aspiring though diabolical in nature. As for Hareton I liked the ruffian a lot.
Took me sometime to read but my #bookspin is done now. @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! I've never made it through this book... I find all the characters SO unlikable! 4y
ishan0986 @TheAromaofBooks i too had the same notion and was thinking of bailing on it. But the birth of cathy griped me tight 4y
ishan0986 The book gave away that she was married to Linton heathcliff and wanted to see how and what happened. So rooted for her and read on. Though i read it ever so slowly. Like 8 pages a day and then 90 a day šŸ˜‚ 4y
TheAromaofBooks I may have to try it again and just set myself a goal of a chapter a day or something. I've actually never gotten through a single Bronte book. Sooooo melodramatic! šŸ˜‚ 4y
