Islands of Decolonial Love
Islands of Decolonial Love | Leanne Simpson
11 posts | 13 read | 32 to read
In her debut collection of short stories, Islands of Decolonial Love, renowned writer and activist Leanne Simpson vividly explores the lives of contemporary Indigenous Peoples and communities, especially those of her own Nishnaabeg nation. Found on reserves, in cities and small towns, in bars and curling rinks, canoes and community centres, doctors offices and pickup trucks, Simpson's characters confront the often heartbreaking challenge of pairing the desire to live loving and observant lives with a constant struggle to simply survive the historical and ongoing injustices of racism and colonialism. Told with voices that are rarely recorded but need to be heard, and incorporating the language and history of her people, Leanne Simpson's Islands of Decolonial Love is a profound, important, and beautiful book of fiction.

Up to 1.5 hrs for #deweysreadathon #deweyapril. Lots of non-reading things on my list today, so I won't get a very high time but it's always fun to do anyways.

I've been taking a bit of a break from audiobooks, so most of this cross stitch has been #audiostitching to podcasts and music. But readathons call for audiobooks so I started the tagged today and made a bit more progress.

I just can‘t seem to concentrate on just one book lately... These are all of the books I‘m currently reading (ok, that‘s kind of a lie because I‘m also reading My Favorite Thing is Monsters).
My goal is to have at least one of them finished before the weekend is over. 🤞

Reviewsbylola F451 is so quick I would tackle that first. 6y
MamaGina I posted yesterday about trying-and failing-to to read one book at a time and from the responses received I‘ve concluded We Are Not Alone! 📚🤓💕 6y
Faibka Me too, I have about three going at the same time that I carry with me all the time and I‘m adding another one, lol. 6y

Beautiful, powerful, challenging, inventive. A collection of stories and songs/poems that are unlike anything I've ever read. This is a book to read and listen to again and again (it comes with free online access to musical / spoken word collaborations with musicians like Cris Derksen and A Tribe Called Red). Highly recommended. #NativeReads

Bibliogeekery Glad you liked this one! Leanne is a dear friend of mine and such an incredible writer, musician and activist! 7y

Today I am revisiting this powerful book written by my dear friend Leanne Simpson. She is of Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg ancestry and a member of Alderville First Nation. She is a fierce activist and a beautiful writer. #decolonize #nodapl #nativebooks #queerbooks

#WWW Leanne Simpson is an extremely talented Anishinaabe writer and performer (and a dear friend of mine). Islands of Decolonial Love is a collection that's political, it's funny, it's heartbreaking and it's full of insight and lyrical prose. Bonus: I am mentioned in one story! 😉 I can't recommend her enough!! #Nativebooks #queerbooks. 💗

Yamich49 😍 Oooooooo this sounds great!!! Look at you, you celebrity! 8y
Lindy Sounds good! 8y
Bibliogeekery @Yamich49 - hah! It's my very minor claim to fame 😉. But really, the book is amazing. 8y
