Murder with Lemon Tea Cakes | Karen Rose Smith
7 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
"Daisy, a widowed mom of two teenagers, is used to feeling protective--so when Iris started dating the wealthy and not-quite-divorced Harvey Fitz, she worried...especially after his bitter ex stormed in and caused a scene at the party Daisy's Tea Garden was catering. Then there was the gossip she overheard about Harvey's grown children being cut out of his will. Daisy didn't want her aunt to wind up with a broken heart--but she never expected Iris to wind up a suspect in Harvey's murder. Now the apple bread and orange pekoe is on the back burner while the cops treat the shop like a crime scene--and Daisy hopes that Jonas Groft, a former detective from Philadelphia, can help her clear her aunt's name and bag the real killer before things boil over"--Back cover.

I did some ripping, cutting, and resewing. It fits a cozy much better. Not good enough to gift, but maybe someone at #thelittlefreelibrary would like a #cozymystery #booksleeve by an amateur.

Cinfhen It looks great!!! And the fabric is AWESOME 🤩 3y
Deblovestoread Looks pretty perfect to me! Love the fabric. 3y

I've been enjoying this cozy mystery series this month. In a small town in Pennsylvania, Daisy runs a "tea garden" that seems to attract murders. There's lots of references to tea of various kinds (although no builders' tea I'm sorry to say?) and to the goodies they serve with it (recipes included!). Perfect switch-off material and perfect for #Booked2021 #BakedGoodsOnCover.

Cinfhen These look delightful 😃 3y
Ruthiella Are you tempted to try any of the recipes? 🤔 3y
CarolynM @Ruthiella Yes, some of them sound really good, and not difficult🙂 3y

Amiable What is builder‘s tea? I‘m a tea person (hate coffee!) and haven‘t heard of that —I‘m intrigued! 😀 3y
Freespirit Sounds perfect lock down reading!!! 3y
CarolynM @Amiable Ordinary black tea brewed extra strong (usually with a teabag in a thick mug) and served with milk and lots of sugar - it's a British/Australian stereotype of how tradespeople like their tea. When you say you're a tea person, do you mean black tea or herbal? And have you ever tried a proper cafe latte? (edited) 3y
CarolynM @Freespirit Yes, very untaxing🙂 How are things with you? Are you seeing a lot of Covid patients in your hospital? 3y
Amiable @CarolynM I‘m a black tea gal—no herbal! That‘s not real tea. 😉 I‘m particularly fond of Chinese teas from the Yunnan province. I like it strong, but not too much sugar. I don‘t use tea bags —I buy loose leaf and brew it myself with my tea maker. And no lattes for me —when I say I hate coffee, I really mean it! I won‘t even do anything mocha because I don‘t want any hint of coffee flavor at all. 😖 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Lovely pick! 3y
CarolynM @Amiable I asked because in these books black tea, green tea, herbal teas and tisanes seem to be treated just as variations on a theme, which is absolutely not how people think of them here, and I wondered how widespread that thinking is in the US. If we say "a cup of tea" here, we mean black tea. But I don't mind some herbals sometimes and I love jasmine tea at yum cha ? 3y
Freespirit Hi @CarolynM we have had plenty of suspected patients..treated as Covid until testing comes back but no positive cases at this stage. Last time we were expecting the worst and we only had a few patients off the Ruby Princess. This time not sure..hoping vaccines will make a difference🙏🏼 3y

Good morning! And happy #cozyswap day! Thank you @LeslieO for my package. It‘s perfect! Funny story the reason I discovered this series is because I was searching the Target app for clotted cream and “Murder With Clotted Cream” came up 😂 ☕️🍁🎃

LeslieO How perfect! Did you ever find actual clotted cream? 🙂 I hope the books are as yummy as they sound. Enjoy! 4y
MatchlessMarie @LeslieO I usually get it at world market but I was trying to see if they had it. They didn‘t. Marscapone makes a pretty good substitute in a pinch though. Thanks again 🧡 4y
Avanders Ooh 👏🏽👏🏽🎃🧡❤️💛 And those books look fun! I haven‘t heard of that series! 4y

I really enjoyed this start of a new cozy series. I loved the setting, a tea garden, and I felt like I got to know the characters well. The protagonist is Daisy, a widow with 2 teenage daughters, making her older than most cozies I read. The only thing that irked me was that there is the makings of a love triangle that is so common in cozies. I plan to continue the series, I'll have to see how it plays out. #cozyinthesun @ferskner @librarybelle

Librarybelle I like seeing the older female leads in cozies too! 4y
ferskner I hate love triangles too, but this sounds charming! 4y
